In order to prove how real the resurrection was, Jesus remained on the earth forty days and manifested Himself to many witnesses. Then He was taken from his midst. To his disciples, these forty days were like a school of faith where they learned to believe in the reality of Jesus' resurrection. Our blessed Lord also spent forty days in a "school of faith" in the wilderness and gave proof of His obedience. But then he went up from the Mount of Olives to heaven. What happened during the ascension of the Lord can never be described. Only faith imagines the unfolding of facts. First there was the triumphal crossing of the sphere of darkness. Here we should bear in mind what Paul said later in Ephesians 6:12, that is, that the principalities and powers are in the heavenly places under heaven. When the Lord Jesus ascended into heaven through these regions, all these principalities and powers of darkness were immobilized, for Psalm 68 says, "You carried captivity captive." This means nothing less than the Calvary Winner taking in His power the infernal powers at His ascension into heaven. And the final episode that closes His ascension to heaven was He setting to the right of the majesty of God.
