<div class="text-justify">Greetings to everyone, I welcomed you all once again to the second lesson of the English Language Session. I am @abu78 and today I would like us to continue with our last week's topic Subject-Verb Agreement or Concord. I hope to give my best to the understanding of all. Without much ado, let's go straight to business.
-----
***We would continue with the 13 rules and we would continue from Rule No8***
-----
#### Rule No 8
----
Singular nouns with "s" at their endings must be watchful and taken as a singular noun, thus it must follow a singular verb as well. Examples of such nouns include; mathematics, economics, mumps, measles, news, etc.
For example;
a. **Mathematics** ***is*** my favorite subject.
b. Todays **news** ***is*** about football.
-----
#### Rule No 9
----
When a subject is a unit of measurement of distance, time, money, weight, etc then the unit is taken as singular and must agree with a singular verb as well. For example;
a. **Twenty Euros** of food ***is*** too much to eat at a spot.
b. **15 feet** of kite string ***tangles*** at an ease pace.
-----
#### Rule No 10
-----
When a question commences with there or here then the verb comes before the subject. For example;
a. Where ***is*** my book?
b. There ***are*** my books.
c. Hera ***are*** your dirty **clothes**
------
#### Rule No 11
----
The verb must always agree with the subject in the sentence. For example;
a. The biggest **problem** we face ***is*** the lack of a health center.
b. The community **members** ***are*** complaining.
#### Rule No 12
-----
The ("ing" words) also called the Gerunds can be subjects and they abide or obey the above-mentioned rules as well. For example;
a. **Sleeping** with my brother ***is*** annoying.
b. **Eating** with my brother and **playing** football ***are*** what I like doing most.
-------
#### Rule No 13
-----
When ***who, which or that*** is used then you must check the noun these relative pronouns are referring to in order to determine whether the subject is singular or plural so as to know the verb to match with. For example;
a. The **boys who** ***eat*** chocolate **are** happy.
b. The **boy who** ***eats*** chocolate **is** happy.
c. The **dogs that** ***bark*** **are** hungry.
d. The **dog that** ***barks*** **is** hungry.
-----
We have concluded the topic under **subject-verb agreement** and we would tackle another topic week. Thank you all for your time and attention.
