Hello @abusereports, sorry for a beginner's question:

What the upvoter is able to gain by taking advantage of last-minute upvote? I tried to learn via the [link](https://steemit.com/steemit/@me-tarzan/j5tno-hold-long-position-steem-trading-system-5#@me-tarzan/re-me-tarzan-j5tno-hold-long-position-steem-trading-system-5-20180305t125207897z) upvoted by @otisbrown in above report. Out of 37  upvotes, 36 were by minnows. The upvoter got the [highest curation rewards](https://steemblockexplorer.com/@me-tarzan/j5tno-hold-long-position-steem-trading-system-5#@me-tarzan/re-me-tarzan-j5tno-hold-long-position-steem-trading-system-5-20180305t125207897z) but his upvote value was also the highest. Does it make any difference if he voted earlier (say 30 minutes after the posting time). 
If the purpose was to hide the large vote until last minute, what is the advantage of doing so?

First up, yes there's a difference in curation rewards based on when you vote. Voting after a lot of other people already voted will result in smaller curation rewards. Additionally during the first 30 minutes of the existence of a post any upvote cast will give up some of their curation reward back to the original author. For instance, if you upvote a post right as it's created 100% of that upvotes curation reward will go to the author instead, this share decreases linearly over time, going down to 0% at 30 minute post age.

The advantage to have your votes reward payout more quickly is basically exactly that. Not only do you give people less time to spot your upvotes and potentially flag your abuse but you also get the reward right away, which means you can trade it for other currency (aka making a quick buck off it).
