I grandi portoni dei castelli e delle cattedrali o i cancelli dei giardini e delle ville costituiscono un limite che non sempre si può oltrepassare, ma che il fotografo può rappresentare creando efficaci e raffinate inquadrature.

Il ruolo ricoperto da una soglia viene svolto indifferentemente sia dall’interno verso l’esterno che viceversa. Talvolta gli elementi adatti a formare un limite adeguato tra due ambienti diversi possono risultare difficili da individuare, ma possono essere opportunamente creati dal fotografo inquadrando alcuni  particolari architettonici, come le colonne e le scale, o inserendo nella composizione qualche figura naturale, come un cespuglio  o il tronco di un albero.

Basta fare attenzione per accorgersi che le migliori inquadrature sono già presenti nella realtà, perfettamente delimitate da   finestre, archi o rami che incorniciano il resto della fotografia. Gli elementi naturali di queste cornici, come le siepi, stanno bene anche sfocate. Quelli architettonici è meglio che appaiano ben nitidi.

Tutto ciò che sta dietro al soggetto viene definito genericamente sfondo,ma non è presente in tutte le fotografie. Uno sfondo corretto deve separare ed essere separato dal soggetto sia graficamente che cromaticamente. E’ opportuno che lo sfondo  sia schematico, ordinato e tranquillo per non prevalere sul soggetto, e di un colore non troppo acceso, per non attirare l’attenzione su di sè. Per ottenere uno sfondo migliore si può  spostare il soggetto o spostare il punto di ripresa. All’aperto gli appassionati hanno a loro disposizione il cielo che è sempre lo  sfondo migliore per fotografare i monumenti, i ritratti e gli edifici.

The role played by a threshold is carried out indifferently both from the inside towards the outside and vice versa. Sometimes the elements suitable for forming an adequate limit between two different environments can be difficult to identify, but they can be appropriately created by the photographer framing some architectural details, such as columns and stairs, or by inserting some natural figure, such as a bush or the trunk of a tree. Just be careful to notice that the best shots are already present in reality, perfectly delimited by windows, arches or branches that frame the rest of the photograph. The natural elements of these frames, such as hedges, are also well blurry. The architectural ones are better if they look sharp. Everything behind the subject is generically defined as a background, but is not present in all photographs. A correct background must separate and be separated from the subject both graphically and chromatically. It is advisable that the background is schematic, orderly and quiet so as not to prevail over the subject, and a color that is not too bright, so as not to attract attention to itself. To get a better background you can move the subject or move the resume point. Outdoors, enthusiasts have at their disposal the sky that is always the best background for photographing monuments, portraits and buildings.
