## What's up Steemians

I wanted to take this time to talk a little about the number of bots that we have in the steemit ecosystem and how they will integrate with Smart Media Tokens (SMT)

Some people think they are a problem with adoption of the steemit platform.  With the advent of [steem bot tracker](https://steembottracker.com/) it seem more and more people are using bots to upvote their own post.

### Does this skew the perception of steemit
Well when new users come on the site they start to wonder why they are not getting as much payout as others.  This does cause a lot of people to just give up which I guess is part of the weeding out process.  

For me I like to use the bots to upvote others just as much if not even more than I do myself.  I think sharing the wealth is a big part of the steemit community.  Not everyone follows this line of thinking and end up trying to abuse the system

### SBD and Smart Media Tokens (SMT)

If you haven't heard of [whaleshares](http://whaleshares.net/) managed by @officialfuzzy and @fuzzyvest you should really check it out because I think it is where steemit is headed with SMT.  They use bitshares to issue their tokens and users can use them to upvote post.

SMT will allow anyone to create their own tokens and I see the first use case being the peltra of bot on this platform creating their own tokens so people can use them to upvote post similar to whaleshares.

I think 2018 will be a really good year for steemit. It's hard to get a count of how many users we have on this site but I think it is less than a million for sure.  When SMT comes out that number could go exponential.  We will just have to wait and see.

This is awesome that you do that but I'll give you my take on being a relative newbie and trying to find my way on the platform.

Finding 'whales or dolphins' to upvote my content has been tough. There are some legit people upvoting my content and I'm very much appreciative, but you hit the nail on the head...The sharing of wealth on Steemit is why I believe so much in this platform.

So I use the upvote bots to get on the radars of others....Hopefully people with influence see that I'm not only trying but also willing to invest in my content.

And paying it forward is so important as well.

I'm too new to say if it's fair or not...But I use the bots for 'promotion' only and hopefully people find value in what I create :)

Thanks for this post and video and more importantly giving us minnows some hope that experienced Steemians like yourself are still out there supporting good content and newer members!

Yea it was hard when I first came on steemit. I got .76 cents for a post and I saw this chick get $20,000 for a makeup tutorial. Made me believe that I could not find a "home" here. I didn't even use the platform until 8 months after my initial post.  Even then my stuff was pretty low. 

For me hip-hop is what keeps me using this site. Plus if you bring people that you know then you all can share and talk about the same stuff.  I'm at the point where I might take small breaks just to center myself.

Nice nice. Yeah I'm sure a lot of people come on and see such low upvotes they might get discouraged.

That's a good point too, keeping your audience engaged with like minded posts. Might have to check out the hip hop stuff on Steemit...I'm so old, I don't even know what's hot right now...
