Soon after that day, Frederick was really tired from all the walking he had done in search of his new home. He received the keys to his new room from the head of the family and asked him very strongly not to lose it, as he had very few copies of that key, and the door to his room was somewhat old and complicated. As he entered his room he felt instantly comfortable, it had the right amount of light for his tastes, it was warm and spacious enough to accommodate the few things he had brought from his old mansion and to make him feel a little more at home. The memory of his father, knowing that he was locked up in prison at the time, was fleeting but persistent. For some time he used to think about his mother and brothers, with a nostalgic and melancholic tone for the times when everyone was happy and united. To distract himself, he began to count the gold coins he had available.

He still had enough money to support himself for a few months, without having to do any work, just rest and, depending on the weather, be able to enjoy the beautiful view of the farmhouse he had through his window. But he did not. He simply could not stand by and watch the time flow before his eyes. Frederick had always been a person who had everything he wanted, there was no additional concern to the art classes provided by his father's colleagues, he had never worked or contemplated living alone and supporting himself. He knew very well what he had to do, work, learn a trade and be able to keep busy, distracted and generating enough money to eat and pay for his room.

He wanted to completely forget about his gold coin reservoir. That little bag she had in her purse would act as a special reserve in case of emergency. The first problem he found imagining what his new life as an independent young man would be like, was realizing that he could do nothing but paint, sculpt and carve. He seriously considered producing his works en masse and then selling them at a good price to the adjacent inhabitants, even though it was not an extremely profitable plan, it could help him in his goals. Then he realized that if he followed the path of art, sooner or later someone would link him to the famous and controversial Fred Clay, and everything he had done up to now to start a new life away from his past would be useless.

If he really thought about leaving everything behind, he also had to say goodbye to his relationship with the arts, and behave like a new man. Contrary to the tiredness he was experiencing, his thoughts prevented him from falling asleep quickly; all he had done for an hour was turn after turn in his bed, elucidating promising plans for his possible new job. He decided to get up and take a walk around the house, I doubt it a bit, because he was no longer a child afraid of the rain that wakes up and takes a walk around his mansion to find his parents, he did it anyway. He went down the stairs, trying to make as little noise as possible, put on one of his coats and went out to the main grounds. The night was quite cold, a thick fog had formed in the middle, so dense that it prevented him from seeing beyond a few feet. Frederick knew very little about the terrain, and at that moment he was practically walking blindly.

I spend a few minutes walking in circles, as the farm was really wide, until I hear some rather strange sounds. They were periodic banging that accompanied the sound of the crickets, unlike the sound that did not seem to be produced by any animal. Curiosity led him to follow the sound through the dense fog, and he walked a few yards until he could make out, diffusely, the outline of a large tree. It was the same tree that the head of the family had told him about. He found it very strange, all that he was hearing, so he accelerated his pace and came closer and closer. Suddenly he found the head of the family wielding a big woodcutter's axe, but he couldn't see him because Frederick quickly hid behind a smaller tree.

The man was really furious, he kept hitting the tree with the axe, with no apparent results. Frederick stayed watching the scene, which was quite strange, not only because of the time he was dedicating to mistreating the great tree, but also because of the background history he had with his ancestors. He thought that the whole incident with the famous tree was in the past, as a component of one of the local legends, but apparently it was not. Suddenly he saw how he took out a glass container and brought it close to one of the masks he had made on the tree with the axe, waiting a few seconds, until the container was almost completely filled with a dark red, viscous liquid, easily confused with blood. Then he covered it up and I carefully put it in one of his pockets. Frederick knew he shouldn't stay there any longer, so he hurried back to his room.

Thank you for reading.
