Understanding resource credits. Spam

A couple of days ago we started with a series of post that aim to explain one of the changes that brought the past Hardfork, __the resource credits.__

In the [first post](https://steemit.com/steemit/@alexicp/understanding-resource-credits-1) we tackle the questions What are resource credits? and Where can I see them? and we explain it in such a simple way that any user can understand it, do the test.

In this second (and next third) part, I will be explaining to you the reasons why you have decided to implement costs in resource credits to the different ways we have to interact in the platform...

## Decrease or eliminate spam.
We will start by saying that Spam refers to low-quality or unwanted content that is sent or received through publications, comments or memos in transfers.

You have probably seen that a newly created post received hundreds of votes that did not bring monetary value or that in some publication there was a comment with a phishing link to steal user data or transfers of 0.001 Steem/sbd promoting some Bot or some service, right?

All the things mentioned above generate an INNECESSARY overload on Steem's Blockchaim and as a consequence, more computational resource (money) must be spent to process each of them.

I know that developers and witnesses work hard to have a scalable system, that is, one that can support a greater number of users and transactions over time, but spam is nothing like that.

Then...

## ¿How do you reduce spam?
That is very simple to answer and we did it before, placing costs to the different forms of interaction that the platform has. Remember that the costs will NOT be charged in Steem or Sbd, they will be charged in resource credits but these in turn regenerate or recharge over time.

As we have a specific amount of resource credits and interactions have a cost, that means that: We have a limited number of comments, votes and transactions that we can make. Let's look at the following image.

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://ipfs.busy.org/ipfs/QmeFdzWY27MdwACNsuDsynnoCWsV2q74fkYq8UJTbRFKSU

The blue bar shows how many resource credits an account has.
The red bar shows the cost in resource credits that a comment has.
The green bar shows the cost in resource credits that a vote has.
The purple bar shows the cost in resource credits that a transfer has.
Looking at the image above and reading the notes below it, we can see that: That user can do...

- 4 Votes.
- 5 Steem/Sbd Transfers.

And Taran! that's how easy it is to lower Spam :D

This also tells us that we should use our votes and comments in a more efficient way and NOT "vote to vote or comment to comment" and the latter is what hundreds or maybe thousands of bot did on the platform.

As we saw in the first post, the amount of comments, votes and transfers are enough for one person but for the bot that have little Steem power and that sent thousands of comments or transfers of 0.001Steem or 0.001 Sbd and saturating the Blockchaim, they won't be able to do it anymore because they don't have the credits of sufficient resources.
