It includes the pectoral (shoulder) girdles, the pelvic girdle and the bones of the lower and upper limbs. The femur is in our upper leg and the smallest bone, the stirrup, is found in your middle ear.</p> <p>The body does a 'make over' on bones and forms new bones every 7 years or so.</p> <p>You will find the most bones in your hands, wrists and fingers and there are a total of 54 bones here.</p> <p>The teeth are seen as part of the skeleton, but teeth are not bone.</p> <p>Most of the bone has a very hard outer part and on the inside it has the bone marrow which is soft. This bone marrow is important, because it produces something called 'lymphocytes' and they help building up your immune system that can fight of diseases.
