## <center>El Halo (parte 10)</center>
Edith se mantuvo negada a bajar al planeta, mientras aguardaba a que su relevo viniera a sustituirla, toda la investigación y análisis de datos se había detenido, así como los reportes. WILBUR, continuaba acumulando los datos recabados por sensores y sondas, pero éstos sólo iban a acumularse, en el ya descomunal, repositorio que era almacenado en la red del parlamento, a esperas de alguien que les dedicara tiempo.
―Edith, deberías comer algo, hace más de treinta horas que no lo haces ―dijo WILBUR ―. Necesitas suministrar proteínas a tu organismo.
―No tengo hambre WIL, por favor déjame descansar ―le respondió Edith, quien desde una semana ya, rara vez se levantaba de su cama.
―Debes levantarte, hacer tu rutina de ejercicios y comer Edith, de lo contrario tu cuerpo empezará a perder masa muscular y puede ser contraproducente, cuando regreses a Dione ―insistió WILBUR.
―Déjame en paz WIL, no estoy de ánimo de hacer nada ―respondió ella.
Desde su última interacción con los cristalodermos y su insistencia en que podía escuchar sus cantos, el estado de ánimo de Edith, que ya bastante malo, había caído en picado, degenerando en una crisis depresiva. WILBUR, tenía prohibido intervenir sobre la interfaz neural de su huésped, a menos que éste estuviera en riesgo, pero ya en varias ocasiones, había sentido el deseo de activar la secreción de endorfinas, para tratar de atenuar su estado, pero su programación se lo impedía.
Repentinamente, se sentó en la cama, con sus rodillas pegadas al pecho y cubrió sus oídos con las manos, y de la nada empezó a llorar.
―Están cantando, de nuevo están cantando … ―dijo entre sollozos.
―No puedes estarlos escuchando Edith, no estás en el planeta y no hay conexión de audio con él ―dijo WILBUR, intentando calmarla.
―Pero están cantando, maldita sea, los puedo escuchar, ¡los puedo sentir en mis huesos! ―gritó ―. Sienten dolor, se lamentan. Están llorando.

A diez años luz de GB01, una patrulla de tres fragatas que custodiaba las proximidades de la estación, fue sorprendida por tres naves alienígenas, sin embargo, en esta ocasión las fragatas lograron evadir los disparos de los cañones de plasma e imitando la maniobra hecha por el contraalmirante Almeida, al mando de la Leónidas, las naves humanas se impulsaron a la retaguardia de las naves enemigas, plantándoles combate.
A dos minutos de iniciado el combate, llegados desde la GB01, otras tres fragatas encabezadas por la Aquiles, bajo el mando del capitán Vincent Ferrari, intervinieron, logrando alcanzar con sus cañones los motores de una de las naves alienígenas, dejándola inhabilitada.
Tras ocurrir esto, rápidamente las otras dos naves, regresaron al rescate de la que había quedado a merced del fuego de las naves humanas; que continuaron cañoneándola, mientras intentaba defenderse disparando, llegando a golpear, sin mayores repercusiones a una de las fragatas humanas.
La nave inhabilitada recibió daño en las torretas y buena parte de su casco fue impactado por los cañones de plasma, antes de que sus compañeras lograran llegar a su rescate. Proyectaron una burbuja de carga electromagnética, para remolcar la nave averiada y se impulsaron, desapareciendo rápidamente de los sensores de las naves humanas.
Fue el primer encuentro de los humanos con sus nuevos enemigos, que concluiría con un resultado positivo a su favor.

A más de doscientos años luz de donde había ocurrido el combate, las naves alienígenas, salieron de impulso, ya lejos de sus contrincantes, una decena de pequeñas cápsulas, fueron disparadas desde la nave averiada y se anclaron en las operativas. Luego de esto, las naves tomaron distancia de la averiada y dispararon varias rondas de plasma que la desintegraron en diminutos fragmentos.

―¡Duele!, ¡duele!, ¡siento que mi cuerpo arde! ―gritaba desesperadamente Edith ―. El dolor es insoportable.
Edith se sacudía y azotaba contra la pared del habitáculo que contenía su cama, a la vez que golpeaba su cabeza las manos y gritaba en agonía. Esta situación obligó a WILBUR a tener que intervenir nuevamente sobre su implante neural, para sedarla y evitar así que se lastimase.

## <center>The Halo (part 10)</center>
Edith refused to go down to the planet while she waited for her replacement to come and replace her, all the research and data analysis had stopped, as well as the reports. WILBUR, continued to accumulate the data collected by sensors and probes, but these were only going to accumulate, in the already huge, repository that was stored in the parliament network, waiting for someone to dedicate time to them.
-Edith, you should eat something, you haven't eaten for over thirty hours, -said WILBUR-. You need to supply your body with protein.
-I'm not hungry, WIL, please let me rest -answered Edith, who for a week now, rarely got up from her bed.
-You must get up, do your exercise routine and eat Edith, otherwise your body will start to lose muscle mass and it may be counterproductive when you return to Dione, -insisted WILBUR.
-Leave me alone WIL, I'm not in the mood to do anything, -she replied.
Since her last interaction with the crystalloderms and her insistence that she could hear their songs, Edith's mood, already bad enough, had plummeted, degenerating into a depressive crisis. WILBUR was forbidden to intervene on the neural interface of his guest, unless he was at risk, but on several occasions, he had already felt the desire to activate the secretion of endorphins, to try to attenuate his state, but his programming prevented him from doing so.
Suddenly, she sat on the bed, with her knees pulled up to her chest and covered her ears with her hands, and out of nowhere she began to cry.
-They're singing, they're singing again... -she said between sobs.
-You can't be listening to them Edith, you're not on the planet and there's no audio connection to it, -said WILBUR, trying to calm her down.
-But they're singing, damn it, I can hear them, I can feel them in my bones! -she cried out-. They're in pain, they're wailing. They're crying.

Ten light years away from GB01, a patrol of three frigates guarding the vicinity of the station, was surprised by three alien ships, however, this time the frigates managed to evade the plasma cannon fire and imitating the maneuver made by Rear Admiral Almeida, in command of the Leonidas, the human ships propelled themselves to the rear of the enemy ships, planting combat.
Two minutes after the combat began, three other frigates arrived from the GB01, led by the Aquiles, under the command of Captain Vincent Ferrari, intervened and managed to hit the engines of one of the alien ships with their cannons, leaving it disabled.
After this happened, the other two ships quickly returned to the rescue of the one that had been at the mercy of the fire of the human ships, which continued cannoning it, while it tried to defend itself by firing, hitting one of the human frigates without major repercussions.
The disabled ship received damage in the turrets and a good part of its hull was hit by the plasma cannons, before its companions managed to come to its rescue. They projected an electromagnetic charge bubble, to tow the damaged ship and propelled themselves, quickly disappearing from the human ships' sensors.
It was the humans' first encounter with their new enemies, which would conclude with a positive outcome in their favor.

More than two hundred light years away from where the combat had occurred, the alien ships, left impulse, already far from their opponents, a dozen small capsules, were fired from the damaged ship and anchored in the operational ones. After this, the ships took distance from the damaged one and fired several plasma rounds that disintegrated it into tiny fragments.

-It hurts, it hurts, I feel my body burning! -Edith cried out desperately-. The pain is unbearable.
Edith was shaking and thrashing against the wall of the room that contained her bed, at the same time hitting her head with her hands and screaming in agony. This situation forced WILBUR to intervene again on her neural implant, to sedate her and prevent her from hurting herself.
