The Inca walls were built by the Incas, which is the main highlight of the city until today. It is a stonemasonry wall which is located on the southeast side of Cusco. There is an alley down the Loreto area where you will be able to see the Inca walls on both sides. Both sides belong to the separate entities such as the Amarucancha has the right side of the wall, which is also known as “Courtyard of the Serpents.” It has the snakes incurved on the wall which ends as an enclosure. You can see the wall from the La Compania church and the Huayna Capac easily.
Presently, there is a school and a tourist market near this wall which you can visit to buy souvenirs and other cultural related items from Peru. However, the other wall belongs to the Acllahuasi, also known as “House of the Chosen Women.” It is a part of the convent which is close to Santa Catalina. Along with that, there is Catholic nun who is known as the Virgins of the Sun.
There was no cement used in the construction of Inca walls. It had two adjacent blocks which were fitted together to make the wall along with stones which were interlocking the entire space. The Inca walls is a fascination for many until today and during the earlier times in Cusco as well. It is the most visit places now because people can relate to the history and learn about it perfectly when they are present there. The shapes of the stones were carved by the Inca to make sure that they fit each other accurately.
There are blocks alongside to keep the position aligned well and made it look professional even though the Inca did not have prior experience. There is a total of 11 stones on each side which was fitted together to keep them shaped and fitted. Also, the Inca walls are anti-earthquake. The fitting of the blocks is so tight that there can’t be any destruction even if there is a strong earthquake. Peru is fond of earthquakes, but until now, the walls have not moved from the place because of the perfect construction by the Incas. There have been many buildings near the walls which suffered from the earthquakes but to be surprised; it never affected the Inca walls. If you want to know more about Inca walls, you can always hire a guide to help you learn about the connection of Inca walls with the history of Peru.
