Review ( spoiler !):

Trial opened : "Rebecca Hoffman was summoned by the secret police on a rainy Monday in 1961"

This is the third book in the series after the books "The Fall of the Giants" and "The Decline of the World." A huge epic of hundreds of pages, in every book, which surveys the history of the world through the eyes of a number of families in the United States, England, Germany and Russia. The historical background of the first volume is World War I and World War II.

 The current volume deals with the second half of the twentieth century, from the Cuban missile crisis to the fall of the Berlin Wall with a small addition to Obama's election as president.

This is the second series of Ken Pult, the previous ("Pillars of the World" and "World without end") dealt in the Middle Ages. Polet's writing method is not so sophisticated, he tells the story of a number of families from the above-mentioned countries over the familiar historical events. The book is not linear and the writer is careful to split the families in different countries so that conflicts arise when one family member is in a country fighting the country where the rest of the family . 

The present book deals with the Canadian government, the Cuban missile crisis, the Soviet Union of Khorchev and Gorbachev. East Germany under the terror of the Stasi to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the struggle of blacks in the United States for equality, Bob Kennedy, Martin Luther King and so on. All these great events and a description of the lives of characters are presented, some of which can be found in real life parallels, living their lives, loving, many, divorcing, advancing and establishing the next generation. The present book deals with the sons and grandsons of the characters from the previous passages. A true saga of close to one hundred and hundred pages covering all the great events in the United States and Europe. High literature? Not necessarily, very readable and partly fascinating. Good for a long flight . The current volume is too long and partially miss. I loved the first volume very much. And of course the previous series on the Middle Ages.
