I went to Dunkirk the movie tonight;  I also went to Wonder Woman and enjoyed the Superheroin movie much more than the Second World War flick. 

I wanted to enjoy Dunkirk and did like some of the elements presented in the movie,  such as some of the battle sequences;  I'm a big believer that if you're trying to convey the horrors of war you should show it all.  

Dunkirk... felt G-Rated. 

I grew up in military bases and surrounded by history including knowledge of Dunkirk,  bot from museums and Canadian soldiers that had actually been there.  I loved the idea that someone would tackle this story so people can know about it. 

But there's no story.  There's just a couple of people trying to get off the beach.  There's a couple of people trying to get to the beach.  

The German army is at the gates but all you see is two or three planes.   They talk about 300 thousand troops on the beach but at most you only see a few hundred;  even in the wide shots it's less than a highschool dance. 

Then we have to talk about the people. 

My friend Adria sent me and her husband a link to an article about how the people there that day included African soldiers, Indian soldiers and a variety of other races. 

None of which are reflected in the movie.  Which really annoyed me the more I think about it. 

Unless Chris Nolan did that on purpose.  Maybe there were 300 thousand people on the beach but he didn't want to show the brown people.  You have to imagine them in the large empty spaces where people should be.

My opinion.  Go see Wonderwoman instead.  Better war movie.
