gestern habe ich in meinem ersten Beitrag über den malerischen Weinort Homburg am Main bereits ankündigt, daß ich noch etwas über den markanten Berg, den Homburger Kallmuth, schreiben werde.
Bereits der weltberühmte Goethe soll die Weine des Kallmuths gelobt haben. Auf jeden Fall gehört der Kallmuth zu den Toplagen des fränkischen Weinbaus und kann auf eine 1000 jährige Tradition zurückblicken.

Auch auf der Internetseite der Markt Triefenstein steht zu lesen, daß der Kallmuth ein über den für die Spessartregion typischen Bundsandstein herausragender Kalksandsteinfelsen ist.
Gemeinsam mit dem Rettersheimer Bocksberg bildet er ein Überbleibsel eines ehemaligen Meeres. Aber nicht nur für den Weinbau ist der Berg bekannt. Nein, er ist auch ein Naturschutzgebiet für seltene Tier- und Pflanzenarten.
Den teilweise sehr schmalen Pfand auf dem Gipfel kann ich aber nur schindelfreien Personen ohne Höhenangst empfehlen.

Beispielsweise von diesem Aussichtspunkt kann man einen herrlichen Ausblick auf Unterfranken und den Spessart genießen.

Über den Ursprung des Namens Kallmuth habe ich unterschiedliche Angaben gefunden. Eine Quelle besagt, der Name sei keltischen Ursprungs und bedeute "geschützter, herausgehobener Ort".
Eine andere Quelle sieht den Namen aus dem lateinischen "calvus mons" = kahler Berg abgeleitet.

_I found different information about the origin of the name Kallmuth. One source says that the name is of Celtic origin and means "protected, elevated place".
Another source sees the name derived from the Latin "calvus mons" = bare mountain._
