What? Jump into the icy ocean? People do this? "No," was my immediate answer to Ben's teasing reminder knowing full well that he was not going to do it either. I am too old and wise was his excuse. Despite my vehement objections I still packed my swimsuit just in case I had a change of heart. It would make a fabulous photo and story around the kitchen table was my personal ongoing argument with my emotional self. Of course my logical self said, don't be stupid! As it turned out, Ben and I both caught a cold and although well again, we decided that it would not be sensible to jump into icy water. An insipid excuseI know! But, 88 other brave fellow expedition trippers did. We watched from Deck 7 while the action was taking place on Deck 4. The excited jumpers ran down the steps on to a ramp, had a special rope tied around their waist and in they jumped. As soon as they popped to the surface in a couple of seconds they were on that ramp and up the steps in 3 seconds flat. Check it out, it was very entertaining. Some yelled, some swore and some were vey quiet!    The jumpers all drank a nip of vodka as they ran to their dressing gowns and all were so glad they did it. Hmmm, maybe next time we can do the ice plunge Ben? Or maybe not was Ben's reply.
