Yesterday I caught an eye on the article by @trafalgar Is It Ethical To Eat Meat?

Actually for myself, I answered this question for a long time - I am a vegetarian. But there are a number of questions on which I have a moral and ethical dilemma, or on which I can not agree with some representatives of the vegetarians and vegans.

So. One of the most difficult issues associated with vegetarianism was the presence of predators in our house. We can set rules for ourselves as much as we like. But for all other living creatures, these rules were established by nature. The use of dry dog food is not a solution, since we all know what they are made of. I also want to note that there is no vegetarian food for cats and dogs in my country, although I heard about it. The appeal to more experienced vegetarians led to nothing but advice: feed with vegetables. But how will the feeding with vegetables be correlated to the right of dogs and cats to natural nutrition?

Good. Eventually, with time, this problem can be solved with the help of special vegetarian food for animals. I admit that the balance of the necessary substances optimal for dogs and cats will be found. But what to do with the feeding of some kinds of birds? Storks and falcons, for example, do not eat cabbage ... They eat mice, chickens, frogs, rats ets. Moreover, the lack of meat will lead to improper development of plumage, will negatively affect their digestion. On the other hand @trafalgar gives a good example of the killing of male chickens. I will remind you the story that happened in our shelter. Really terrible and at the same time happy story.

Today we had a real shock!
But first I have to explain something. You probably know that the business of producing chicken meat is very cruel. And this begins with the moment when the chicks hatch from the eggs. Only females are left alive, and the males ... are utilized. These utilized (dead) chicks we buy for feeding storks. Storks feed on animal food (chicks, mice, snakes, frogs). So nature is arranged and nothing can be done about it. I would never be able to feed them with live animals or chicks, so we buy these utilized chickens at the poultry farm. Today I brought four boxes and my husband began to pack them and put them in the freezer. After a while, I heard that he was calling me. "If someone wants to live, he will survive," he said. He had a chicken in his hands! I could not understand where the chicken came from! I could not even think that the chicken could survive after being tried to kill at a poultry farm, showered by other dead chickens, drove many kilometers...

It's all very complicated... But, on the other hand, the consequence of the emergence of livestock and poultry waste, which we feed our animals and birds, is not a consequence of the fact that we have animals and birds. It is a consequence of the fact that people eat meat. But even this is not the worst. The worst thing is that every day more meat is delivered to stores around the world than people are able to consume. Thus, livestock and poultry farming turns into a conveyor belt for meaningless mass killing of animals.

Here I would like to say that some postulates promoted by vegans and vegetarians are incomprehensible to me. They are incomprehensible to me as a person who lives outside the city and communicates with animals every day. For example, for a long time we had a goat and we drank her milk. I know that I will cause some vegans to be indignant, but I do not see anything wrong with the fact that we did it. We took care of her, fed her, nursed her, she gave us her milk. I milked it myself, with my own hands, without taking scary devices! I do not see anything wrong with such cooperation between people and animals. But this should be precisely the cooperation, not exploitation. Although… our goat's manicure, which the vet did to her (the goats need a special care on their hoofs) was better than the manicure I had on my hands :) So it is an open question who exploited whom.

Everyone makes his own choice. The only thing I always agitate for is awareness. Buying meat and poultry in supermarkets, buying fur jackets, people should understand what they are involved in. I do not agitate for anyone, it's just my opinion.

Dogs and cats are carnivores. In nature they eat meat, you will never see a dog or cat grazing (unless they're sick and trying to vomit). There's nothing wrong with it! For some reason humans in their infinite mental illness have convinced themselves that to eat meat shows some dislike or disrespect for what they're eating. Given the poor treatment of animals raised for food, it's a difficult point to argue. However, it doesn't have to be like that... Now I'm going way out on a limb and defend Hitler! Hitler was a lover of animals (he liked them more than humans). He was instrumental in getting legislation passed in Germany for the ethical treatment of animals to be slaughtered, including the manner in which they were killed. Most of these laws are still in existence. The American Indians ate meat and had the right idea about how to do it. They only killed what was necessary and it was done as humanely as their primitive technology allowed. They then prayed for the spirit of the departed beast. They threw nothing away.

I agree with you in everything that you are saying here. My position is unchanged in that the choice must be conscious. Modern industry is built barbarically in relation to animals. But I do not in any way condemn, for example, a hunter in the taiga, who killed a hare for his food. This is natural. But to kill thousands of animals, then to throw away "surplus" - this is savagery. This question is more complicated than simply "eat or not eat meat." P.S. I hope you liked our party :) https://steemit.com/story/@animal-shelter/the-party-of-friends-on-steemit-my-friday-fantasy

I couldn't agree more. I enjoy eating meat but I do not enjoy thinking about the barbarity with which those poor animals are treated. If I stop eating meat, nothing will change. And it is a very complicated issue.
