George Washington and Abraham Lincoln's pets

<p>Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the USA. &nbsp;He really loved cats a lot. &nbsp;He would spend hours playing with them and when his wife was asked if the president had a hobby she would always say that 'Cats' were his hobby.</p>
<p>At the time when the Civil war was almost at an end, the president went to visit General Grant that lived in Virginia. &nbsp;When he got there he saw kittens next to the office of General Grant and the president was happy and excited.</p>
<p>He found out that the poor kittens were orphans, that means their mother was dead. &nbsp;He made sure that these little kittens were taken care of and went to good homes.</p>
<p>He did not only love cats. &nbsp;Even though he said that cats were his favorite animals, he loved all animals and took care of them. &nbsp;He believed that if you are a good person, you will be kind to all animals.</p>
<p>He had goats, a horse and a dog, they all lived by the White House (the house of the president) and he also had a cat named Tabby and he was the 'first White house cat.'</p>

<p>George Washington was the 1st president of the USA and he loved dog. &nbsp;He owned a lot of dogs in his life time - more than 40 of them...</p>
<p>A lot of dogs went with their masters to war to protect them and keep them company. &nbsp;This was no different for George Washington. &nbsp;Before he became president, there was a war between Britain and the USA. &nbsp;The British had a general called general Howe and he also took his dog with him.</p>
<p>During the battle between the two sides, the general's dog got lost and the USA troops found him and took him to George Washington. &nbsp;They thought that he would just keep the dog, it was after all his enemy's dog, but that did not happen...</p>
<p>George fed the dog, brushed him and then he ordered the soldiers that they had to stop shooting so that he could safely return the dog to his owner. &nbsp;He knew how he would have felt if he lost his dog and he did not want somebody else to feel that sad, so he did a very good deed.</p>
