<html> <h3>We have spoken about safety before - how to keep yourself safe in and out of your house like for instance keeping pills and flammable substances in a safe place and not drinking it. We also looked at what to do in case of emergencies. </h3> <p>Today we will be looking at something we all need to be aware of because we use it every day and that is <strong>being safe on the road and using it in a safe way.</strong></p> <p>We find a lot of <strong>roadsigns</strong> next to the road warning drivers of what they must look out for like pedestrians (people crossing the road), where there is a zebra crossing or a school and they have to slow down.</p> <p><strong>Look at the following road signs and try and answer the question by pointing at the correct sign</strong></p> <p><img src="https://imgoat.com/uploads/0c7c76d30b/49174.png" width="960" height="720"/></p> <p><a href="https://imgoat.com/uploads/0c7c76d30b/49174.png">image source</a></p> <p><em>Which of the following signs will</em></p> <ol> <li><em>Show you where to park your car?</em></li> <li><em>Make you aware that there are animals in the area that you must look out for?</em></li> <li><em>Show you that there is a very steap hill and you will have to go slow?</em></li> <li><em>Make you aware that you must look out for people walking close by the road?</em></li> <li><em>Show you there are people working in the road?</em></li> <li><em>Warn you that you may not make a U-turn?</em></li> <li><em>Show you that a road is closed for you?</em></li> <li><em>Remind you to put on your safety belt?</em></li> <li><em>Show you where the park is where you and your friends can play?</em></li> <li><em>Show you that the road is only going in one direction?</em></li> </ol> <p><strong>It is very important when you get into a car, that you put on your seatbelt</strong>. A seatbelt may save your life when you are in an accident and prevent you from flying through the front window or hitting your head on something in the car. </p> <p>The babies travelling in the car will have a special car seat to sit in and get buckled up, but you are big enough to just sit on the seat and use the car's safety belt.</p> <p><strong>There are a few other things you must keep in mind if you are in a car or using the roads.</strong></p> <p>First lets have a look if your are a <strong>pedestrian</strong>.</p> <ul> <li>What is a pedestrian?</li> <li>Is it fine just to run over the road? Where must we cross a road?</li> </ul> <p>If there are no robot or zebra crossing where you can cross the road, you must be extra careful. Remember that some drivers do not concentrate and look around, so it is very important that you watch the cars.</p> <p>You cannot just run over the road when you feel like it. Stand on the side of the road. Look left, then right and then left again. If the road is clear you can cross the road. Walk quickly but do not run or stop and play around in the road.</p> <p>If you are walking somewhere and there is no pavement, make sure that you are facing oncoming traffic if you need to walk in the road. Do not walk with your back towards oncoming traffic.</p> <ul> <li><em>Why do you think you need to do this?</em></li> </ul> <p>Do not think that you are walking in a parking lot, you do not have to be aware of the cars? You will think <em>but they are driving so slowly in the parking area</em>. It does not matter. There is always a chance that somebody may drive too fast or not look where you are walking and bump you and you can get hurt.</p> <p>If you are a <strong>passenger in the car</strong> you must also obey certain rules. You now know about the seatbelt that you need to wear, but it is also very important that you and your siblings do not distract the driver by fighting or shouting.
