The day a dream came true - Story and activities for kids

<p>Almost 50 years ago there was a little boy named Jason. &nbsp;He loved to read about the solar system and even had a solar system on his wall in his bedroom.</p>

<p>Late at night he would lay in bed with his teddy and they would watch all the planets spin around the sun.</p>
<p>There was Mars that looked like a little tomato, Saturn with rings around it that looked like a frisbee and the very cold Pluto that turned slowly in the dark and also Uranus, Neptune, Venus, Mercury and Earth.</p>
<p>He loved looking at them all and he knew a lot about each of them.</p>
<p>Of all the things he saw in his room, his favourite was the moon. &nbsp;It just looked like an ordinary rock but for Jason it was magical at night.</p>
<p>He would look out of his window every night and watch the moon slide across the sky. &nbsp;He even borrowed his dad's binoculars to see clearly and look at the deserts and the rocky mountain on the surface of the moon.</p>
<p>It was amazing for him to think that he was looking at a rock that is two hundred thousand miles away from Earth.</p>
<p>When Christmas came, his mom gave him a book on the moon. &nbsp;He was so excited and read the book from front to back. &nbsp;He even dreamed of going there and landing on the crumbly rock. &nbsp;He wanted to visit the craters they were talking about in the book. &nbsp;Prosper, Henry, Klaproth, Zack.</p>
<p>He dreamed of driving in a special moon-mobile with huge tyres and going across the moon and discovering many interesting things and places.</p>
<p>He even made a scrapbook where he had a lot of pictures in of astronauts and rockets and the Solar system.</p>
<p>He went to the library and borrowed books and read how astronauts orbited Earth, how they walked in space and flew around the moon itself. But no man has ever landed and walked on the moon.</p>
<p>Every night he hoped that one day they would find a way to land on the moon.</p>
<p>He dreamed about that day and hoped that he would be able to see it. &nbsp;&nbsp;It was not long before it happened....</p>

<p>Jason was so excited he could not sleep. &nbsp;They were talking about the moon landing for months now. &nbsp;It was already midnight and he was looking at the moon and thinking <em>Not long then there will be people walking there.</em></p>
<p>At 3 o'clock he went downstairs and turned the television on. &nbsp;Believe it or not, there they were, bouncing &nbsp;through the dust of the moon like giants walking very slowly.</p>
<p>He stayed awake for the rest of the night and watched this wonderful piece of history happen. &nbsp;He could not believe that he could witness it and when the sun came up, he fell asleep and dreamed that he was walking with them on the moon.</p>
