 Donna, dueña del hotel "Villa Donna" y madre de  la protagonista del musical. Sam, Harry y Bill interpretan el papel de uno de los tres que están tratando de averiguar quiénes el papa de Sophie, una chica de 20 años que está a punto de casarse. La madre de Sophie nunca le dijo que era su padre. Cuando Sophie encuentra el viejo diario de su madre , encuentra la dirección de tres hombres que podría ser  y decide invitarlos a su boda sin que su madre lo sepa.

Todo se complica cuando los tres hombres llegan y conocen a Sophie y Donna, esta última apoyada por dos mejores amigas Rosie y Tanya, ex miembros de la antigua banda, "Donna and the Dynamos". Juntos, intentarán resolver el misterio de quién es el verdadero padre de Sophie y quién la llevará al altar. La película está hecha para que podemos dejarnos llevar por el ritmo de ABBA y pasar unas horas sin hacer nada más, lo que queremos es bailar cantar, ir a la isla griega donde se desarrolla la acción teniendo una fiesta como la que vemos. Los actores no son ni grandes cantantes ni bailarines, pero en esta imperfección está la gracia

Everything gets complicated when the three men arrive and meet Sophie and Donna, the latter supported by two best friends Rosie and Tanya, former members of the old band, "Donna and the Dynamos". Together, they will try to solve the mystery of who is Sophie's real father and who will lead her to the altar. The film is made so that we can let ourselves be carried away by the rhythm of ABBA and spend a few hours doing nothing else, what we want is to dance, sing, go to the Greek island where the action takes place having a party like the one we see. The actors are neither great singers nor dancers, but in this imperfection is grace.

La película tuvo un presupuesto de de 52 millones y generó una cantidad de 597,9 millones en ventas de taquilla, también recibió 18  premios, de los cuales ganó cuatro de. La pelicula logró reunir públicamente a los cuatro miembros del grupo ABBA, luego de más de 20 años sin haber estado juntos.
