at the ancient city.
all the doors are closed
bloody redness dirt roads.
there was something amiss,
still living the afterlife 
of an ancient glory*
&nbsp;
*it’s pouring outside 
and she’s inside wishing. 
a parch of linoleum 
mark off the living room.
places she once lived in
existed only among wanderers.
how hollow, how ghostly* 
&nbsp;
*closer to a flagellant’s pleasure 
at being scourged,
no lines of demarcation
to protect reckless girls 
from the danger.
the danger of romance,
and the danger of curiousity*
&nbsp;
*the whole idea of redemption
in delirious exultation 
for a diminutive woman. 
when she spoke in tongues,
in tongues translated into sounds, 
in the language of laughter, 
of spastic blurts or frenzy* 
&nbsp;
*they all shouted 
of gospel preaching
at the ancient city*</center>
