Good health is one precious and irreplaceable gift that money cannot buy.  

 Our society is filled with people with various health challenges.  Cancer is one of the major illnesses in our society that has led to the lost of many lives. 

This deadly desease has put many people in a state of hopelessness, despair, bitterness  and perpetual depression, awaiting their death. 

Cancer is a situation when the cells grow out of control and crowd out normal cells.  Cancer makes the various cells in the body unable to carryout thier functions. 

Cancer could be as a result of environmental exposures such as chemicals, smokes, rays from Sun, tobbaco, etc which usually causes a damage of ones DNA. Cancer could also be genetic.

I had this friend  named John who died of leukemia. A very young and promising man from a wealthy family. 

I admired John soo because I saw him as one who had no problems. But unknown to me, John was battling with leukemia.

At the point of this diagnosis, the cancer was at a chronic stage(stage 4). The cells had grown uncontrollable and this placed   John at the mercy of chemotherapy( drugs for cancer).

This made John reserved and usually quiet and alone. Many felt he was ignoring them  but hardly did they know that John was dieing gradually.

I tried to know the reason for his attitude but as usual, he would  say to me; all is fine. I never knew his days were numbered.

After some months, I did not see John and he was not taking my calls so I decided to visit him.

On my arrival, I saw many people in his house with gloomy faces. Upon enquiry, I was told that John passed on 2days ago. I wept bitterly.

After his burial, his mum told me the cause of his death(leukemia) and how he battled with it till his death. May his gentle soul continue to rest in peace.
