I'm not going to spend a post reflecting on 2018. It was a shit year for me and I'm happy for it to be over, if it means starting fresh and spending the next 12 months racking up some happy memories.

Saturday coming up is our first Basic Manners class with Orbit. He has come so far over the past few weeks, just with us doing the best we can with what we learned from our first puppy. Moxie was so eager to please, though, that training her did not prepare us for a dog that actually needs constant work. But it's okay. As I said, he's already come so far with no professional training that I am eager to see the dog we will get once we have regular help in teaching him good habits.

Once he's settled in, and tires of chewing, he does like to snuggle with us on the sofa, under the blanket.
![IMG_1116.JPG](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSB28jdZLC4k3SaiKF47LcCY9tioykW7SzLjkGMzt3YnE/IMG_1116.JPG)
He could sleep in bed with us at night, if we could trust him not to get up while we're sleeping and cause all sorts of trouble. When left alone in the morning (because Hubs can't seem to get it that Orbit will eat anything when left alone...he doesn't care that you'll just be in the shower for 15 minutes) he eats a lot of coasters and will investigate anything left at his level.

When he plays, he can't seem to control himself. His energy is so high, that if he comes back to you with a ball he has fetched, he tends to smack full-speed into your body to stop himself. Something he is getting better at, but still likes to jump at you and push his mouth towards your hands. But he's getting to learn (or accept) that he needs to stop before slamming into whatever he's running towards. (He has, in the past, run into the door when coming back inside, forgetting to stop at the closed door!) I believe he has the canine version of ADD.
![IMG_1117.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWeLv1BwtF7JsrhLVRbimPkkL2JaoE7RhG6PTrJ37Vm8m/IMG_1117.jpg)
We have made some serious progress in 'sit' and 'wait', however that this sight was cause for some excitement.
He just needs to calm down, overall. Which will hopefully lead to him accepting being alone at times, outside of his crate.

In the meantime, my needlework has come to a halt, as I can't trust him to sit still while I have needles and thread strewn about. Of course, while he was napping, I took a few minutes to patch up a couple of his favorite toys...
![IMG_1109.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTw67ghJtoDbK2CxSFc4KJ3QjuE848HwA1xC2ZfZgr9iA/IMG_1109.jpg)

He is very rough on toys, liking the tuggy games best. I read a lot of articles saying that tug games are bad for 'aggressive play biters', so we stay away from those for the most part. We've gotten to the point where we can tug a little, get the toy from him, and then make him wait to get it back.
But, the toys still suffer. These two seemed to be holding up the best, so I felt they were worth saving.
![IMG_1110.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZJnDViips6AiW624CviJvtPapr22pXEgPR3wKT8qFWNx/IMG_1110.jpg)
**After this picture was taken, I also had to do emergency surgery on the snowman's nose. Orbit finally chewed it off so we had to give him a quick nose job.**

I have an extra day off again this week, as work is closed today and tomorrow is my regular day off. We're considering a beach walk today, though it is pouring rain currently (and has been all night).

Currently, I'm taking advantage of the early morning hours while the puppy sleeps in a little.
A little chocolate whisky nip in my morning coffee, to make up for forgetting we had a bottle of champagne to drink last night!
![IMG_1123.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmVScuUJuYg6xgqKd5zzLHidAHRjdDqYuCKLviV5E6mh1B/IMG_1123.jpg)

I will be putting pen to paper today, to work out some thoughts and goals and plans for the new year. Last year was a bitch and this year needs to be better...I need to be better.

Do you make resolutions? How did your 2018 end, with last year's resolutions? Do you have new year's day traditions?

Whatever your day, and new year bring, I wish you health and happiness as I see these things as basic human needs...these should not be luxury items.

yes! at just 7 months old, we are in the thick of his bad behavior stage. I often use the new year to look at what I've been up to and what could change to make life happier, simpler maybe, but as years pass I wonder why wait for a certain date to do it!? We can make positive change in our lives whenever we wish, right?

If you have a recipe how to change the negatives... feel free to share :-) Honestly... I find it acutely tough to not drown in my own negative thoughts. And as the reasons for these thoughts will not go away, so I must work with my thoughts - and my thoughts are so stubborn.

Well you know me, I like a good resolution, though I like to stick to ONE as it's easier. Although, technically diet/exercise was a sort of resolution, but I did not treat it like one and never even mentioned it until people actually noticed I seemed a bit thinner. Yet, I LOVE a new year as it really feels like a clean slate.

Of course it's just an arbitrary time that we have all agreed means a 'new year' but it is enough in the collective psyche that it IS worth plugging into it and giving yourself a goal.

I also LOVE to look at what I didn't like in the previous year and 'earmark' that as a thing to notice when it comes up again in this year and think "Ah, you lil devil, this year I'm doing b) instead of a) like last time.

Happy New Year!
