Just Some Pictures From Around Our Homestead!

I was walking around today and figured I would take a few pictures and show you some pictures from our homestead. These are taken with my phone and I am trying to figure out how to get good pictures with it. The reason being it will be a while before I can get the camera I want. So have to work with what I have.

Keep in mind this was raw land when we bought it and some of these pictures are from the part of the land we wanted to keep untouched, so to speak, we wanted to keep as many trees as possible. They will serve as a good windbreak for the houses and such. This is mostly the back 4 or so acres. We have some clean up to do but that is down the list of priorities right now. It was planted with pine trees and some little scrub oak trees are growing around also.

This is Bear our dog. We made this pen for him as if he runs around out here he is likely to get shot and killed so we keep him here. We had to put an electric fence on it so he would not dig out of it. We let him out and he runs around the homestead sometimes during the day and plays with the grandkids when they are out in the yard. It was a rainy day here today so everyone stayed in for most of the day it let up and I took this chance to go out and get some pictures.

This something I found when we were clearing the land I think this was a longleaf pine that got hit by lighting a few years back and this thing is as hard as a rock. I cut a small piece off the stump end last year and lit it up it burned hot and stayed burning for a while. I think this is what my grandpa call lighter. I know it dulls a chainsaw quick.

Still putting mud on the walls of the small house and sanding and reapplying mud. We will be painting the other half here soon and getting some more done. Went and got the trim for the bathroom and the paint. It was just cheap furring strips we will be using. The trim is so expensive to get some of it sells per linear ft. and it was like 3 and 4 dollars a foot. The furring strips where like 2 dollars for a 1x3x8, that is a win for us. That was the goal. We did not want to live someone else's dream by buying something already built we wanted to do it our way. Making our dreams come true. It is a lot harder but it will be worth it in the long run.
