If you love to travel and have been to a few different hot spring/snowbird destinations, you've probably heard of the Secret Success Method. Coined by famous travel writer Les Brown, this method is simply a series of "hits" that each writer's family makes while on vacation in an area they are particularly fond of. In this case, the family of the Secret Success Method author would hit the beautiful Adirondacks in the winter, ride up the majestic hills in the spring, spend some time in the desert, and then head back to the hotel for the summer. The method has been used by many others, including authors, celebrities, coaches, and motivational speakers.

One of the most important things about this secret success method that I find most helpful is how it applies to internet marketing. There are a lot of ways that people can market their products or services using the internet. Some use pay per click, others list their business on search engines, others run banner ads, and still others advertise through media networks. All of these marketing methods can bring in good results for the owner of the business. But using this strategy can cost someone lots of money if it is done incorrectly.

A perfect example of how this method could go wrong for someone is when someone decides to do it all by themselves. They hire a professional writer, a real one, for a low cost and schedule six months of work during the summer. Then when winter hits and there are no more winter advertising, they sit back and wait for another hot summer to use the same dry fly fishing strategy. When the summer is over and another cold winter following, they are just about dead in the water because they had used up their summer budget and they didn't make any new sales.

In this example, what went wrong was not only the strategy, but the fact that it was done by someone who did not really know anything about marketing. When the trail continues, someone will make a new purchase or two, then the original buyer decides he or she wants to do it all by himself/herself this time and goes ahead and does it. Now the problem arises when he/she cannot get any more sales. The sales for that particular product have now dried up. This is why you need a professional to help you understand the finer points in running a business like dry fly fishing.

The Secret Success Method is best described by a famous Japanese writer, Yukio Sagara. He said of marketing in general, that it takes one half of your brain to do the right thing and the other half to do the wrong thing. In other words, there are halfhearted attempts at being everything to everyone, and then there is a total lack of sincerity and respect for each individual person that you are trying to serve. And that is where many businesses are heading right now.

Let us take the example of Motosu Lake and the town of Kawaguchi-ko in Japan. When the local businessman decided to open a tourist spot in the middle of the scenic lake bed, nobody came. They just didn't know what the attraction would be. And nobody in their right mind was going to waste their time, money and gasoline traveling all over the place just to check out the tourist spot. But, amazingly, this small town attracted thousands of foreign tourists every year.

The townspeople invested in building a series of shacks on the shore, selling out all their products at a good price and bringing in all the tourists that could fill the park. What they didn't realize was that they had opened a gold mine and had become the premier destination for Japanese travelers. If they had known about the Secret Success Method, there would have been a different set of guidelines that they could have followed to be sure of attracting more visitors. For instance, they could have advertised their whole operation through the local newspaper, created flyers and invited local businessmen to advertise on their behalf.
