No, this isn't a recap of a wrestling match or talking about Ninjas but it is a topic many of us "former" athletes and people still in the game cope with.  These days my exercising is an occasional hike, walking the dog and yoga.  I grew up playing way too many sports with no downtime and would ignore doctors orders and get back too soon.  Swimming, Tennis, Soccer, Martial Arts, Skateboarding, Biking,Basketball, failed at Skiing and Surfing big time.   Anyways,  I wound up by age 18 having blown out my knee 3 times and also another dislocation and ankle crack in the early 20's.  They said I'd need a knee replacement...they were wrong.  For years my left knee needed a compression brace for hiking and climbing and crunched in pain.  Then I started studying.  Sports like Soccer, Basketball and Gymnastics were especially taxing on my body and if I had to do it over would have given my body time to repair instead of just grinning through the pain and keep playing on because....STUBBORN!

*Glucosamine helped for awhile to just rebuild things.  Yoga helped with just keeping spry and Tumeric is also a good anti inflammatory.  However,  that stuff doesn't do crap when it flairs up cause I am hiking and have to climb a bit.  Here comes the story of CBD!  It is legal although some places are grey or have controversial stances...  CBD shops are popping up everywhere.  The strength and ingredients are not mandatory tested so I am VERY picky on what I use.  CBD is NOT POT!!!  CBD are Cannabinoids that are the other properties of the Hemp plant that we have receptors for.  It is a potent anti pain and inflammatory tool as well as being studied with good results for everything from Seizures,  Cancer,  Anxiety,  Spasms and an overall feel good medicine.* 
 I am only speaking from my own experience so do your own due diligence if you want to learn more or explore the "topic".  Speaking of "Topics",  the topical CBD balms I've found are amazing for your skin and also help sports injuries much akin to "Tiger Balm" but better. ;)

The following information is compiled from a rather Scientific site cited below..."The Cannabis plant contains many phytocannabinoids with weak or null psychoactivity, which, from a therapeutic point of view, could be much more promising than Δ9-THC.

CBD is an important non-psychotropic phytocannabinoid that produces a large amount of pharmacological, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, among others, transmitted by several mechanisms. It has been clinically proven in cases of anxiety, psychosis and movement disorders, as well as to alleviate neuropathic pain in individuals suffering from multiple sclerosis (it is sometimes combined with Δ9-THC in a 1:1 proportion, as happens in SATIVEX®).

CBDA does not join CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, although it is an inhibitor of selective COX-2 with anti-inflammatory effects. However, it can join certain vanilloids receptors, but its effects are not fully understood yet. In addition to this, it does act against proliferation.

CBG acts against proliferation and as an antibacterial. It is a ligand from CB2 cannabinoid receptor and an inhibitor of the re-absorption of anandamide. Furthermore, it is a vanilloids ligand."
