***It’s been said that one would have to be barmy,
If one voluntarily wanted to join the Army,
Once past filling in forms at the office of recruiting,
You’re no longer your own boss, there’s no disputing.
Mediocre pay, to say the least,
Being yelled at and pushed around, by some sergeant beast!
And, if this is not the biggest inconvenience you ever saw!
From time to time, you’ll be sent off to war!***


***Catch - 22, it’s not a new notion,
For military folk in air, land or ocean.
If refers to the fact that you’d be crazy to want to go to war,
If you were crazy, you’d be shipped back to home what is more!
But if you wanted to go back home, you wouldn’t be insane.
So you’d be kept in the war zone to keep behaving inane!***


***Milo Morose did exactly that,
Joined the Army, sent off to a spat!
Right from the “git-go” he knew it was not for him.
He regarded both officers and NCO’s more than just dim.
“And I’m supposed to put my life in their hands!”
“I would sooner join one of those renegade bands!***


***Milo started acting in a fashion most crazy,
He wanted to be sent home, he was scared, not lazy.
He began wearing ladies dresses,
When he went to dinner in messes.
Pretty soon his C.O decided something must be done,
Wearing dresses, against regulations, and not so much fun!
“Since you are dressed to the nines, like a gangsters moll,”
“I’ll send you like that, out on patrol.”
The enemy spotted him soon enough,
And invited him to dinner, and other stuff!***
