# Enjoying Christmas with children - less is often more
The children are usually looking forward to the Christmas season for months. Family celebrations, sumptuous food and the many gifts cause excitement and even stress for many a child. Therefore, parents should try to make the holidays for the children and on their own well structured and relaxed.

The contemplative moments of the Christmas season often come too short, if too many commitments wait, too much is planned. Make sure your child gets a sense of the essence of Christmas: for the contemplation and harmony that comes to rest at the end of a year. It will also do you good and make sure that Christmas is a time for all to relax and gain strength.

## Christmas - a party for children?
We adults do not usually take Christmas so seriously. Many singles or couples do not have a Christmas tree and do without the Christmas decoration in the apartment. This usually changes abruptly when a child is there. Suddenly the party gets its old magic again. Unfortunately, this often starts with a rush before the holidays and stress and excitement on the holidays itself. What is there to eat, what and how much do we want to give the child, do we need a Santa Claus, on which days are which grandparents visited? Especially couples who themselves have not experienced a "real" Christmas, often get baffled or beat with the most diverse superlatives on the strings: With a huge Christmas tree, several packages, a gigantic Christmas dinner, etc. This children need it all barely. You will enjoy the mysterious, the bright lights and the very special atmosphere that can be felt at Christmas, if it is not drowned out by commerce, consumption and obligations.


## The first Christmas with baby
+ If your child is still in babyhood, you should take the first Christmas calmly. No stress is the motto.
+ Just prepare what you really like, your baby is already in the crawlspace, take special care that the tree and Christmas decorations are well secured.
+ On the holidays, you should visit instead of becoming a Christmas nomad. This is especially true when the baby is still very small.
+ At the Christmas meal, you should confine yourself to known, after all, you do not want a baby with rash, diarrhea or stomach cramps.
+ You would like to go to church? Please without baby. It would not have any of that, and she and her partner probably would not have it either.
+ Stay flexible! In the first year of life the baby indicates the rhythm. Rigid plans bring stress and unrest. This affects baby's mood and sleep.

## Stress-free Christmas with older children
Sometimes the good tips for babies apply later. The older your child gets, the freer you can make Christmas. Nevertheless, it is above all not to tilt the mood by overly strict planning and excessive expectations.

Keep in mind that children are always themselves, even at Christmas. They have needs that need to be met and they should be included in the Christmas plans: infants need a rhythm and their nap, regular meals and breaks to follow their own ideas. Larger children want to be with their parents, admire and populate the unwrapped gifts, read stories, watch a Christmas movie, spend time together. Too many rounds of celebrations at Christmas do not live up to these wishes, as do giant relatives' invitations, where mom is spending hours in the kitchen, busy daddy carrying chairs and beer crates. Make it easy on the Christmas holidays and be there - for your child and also for yourself.

## Quarrel at Christmas
did you know that? Christmas is the time when families argue the hardest. This comes from the stress of expectations, but also that as a family rarely spends several days at a time together in the apartment. Take it easy - no matter whether your children are getting their hands on their hair or you are slipping into an argument with your partner. Try to give in (not just for Christmas, by the way) and not see everything so closely. A dispute should definitely not cause the whole holiday to be ruined.

however, one finds more and more families drowning their children in gifts and measuring themselves and their world around them. But that's the wrong way, I'm glad that there are people who have understood that because it is not more gifts happier children, no, because most of the walking then most things then lost because the children have so much that they do not even know what and what they should play with .... But about that I wrote a post some time ago;)
