The Congress Halls of Innsbruck are the major performance venues for this popular tourist destination. There are quite a number of multi purpose halls that house conferences and concerts and recordings.

The sizes of the halls are quite varied depending on your requirements. The one I wil be talking about is the concert venue, Saal Tirol. 

As you can see it is a lovely modern hall with comfortable seating for the audience and a wooden panelling all around. Normally, this would be the beginnings of a good acoustic, however I did find it oddly muffled on stage.

However, a performer is not the only person that needs to be pleased with the hall. When I listened from the audience perspective (at least in the middle at the bottom floor), everything in stage was marvellously clear.

So mixed feelings about this one. Tough for the performer, great for the audience!

Imagine what it feels like to be a classical music patron in the USA:  The Big Money is not invested in concert halls with ambience and good acoustics.  Instead, much more is invested in huge stadiums with people shouting with glee as the opponent players suffer traumatic brain injury.  On the other hand, crowds are small and it is possible to meet and greet the artists before & after a concert.

The American public likes their football though, so it can't be helped! I was under the impression that a lot of money is spent on concert halls and orchestras in the US though, partly because the cities are bigger so demand is still higher.  In the UK, it's hard to find proper performance venues outside of London.

Likewise, here there are venues in the cities but not in middle-class areas. At least we have National Public Radio.

Not keen on football?

I have to say, a lot of these buildings were built quite some time ago. These days, it is rare to have one built for the single purpose of concerts.
