Crappy travelling days (aka: The Glamorous Music Life)

So, it's the end of long short week of touring... the last concert, which happens to be on the other side Germany from the rest of the concerts. It's that sort of awkward distance, where it isn't really worth the hassle of trying to use the airport... and the trains are generally quite decent. About 500 kms. 

However, most of the days this week have been in towns "near" to Hamburg... meaning within a 1-2 hour coach ride...which after a concert, tends to put us back at the hotel around 1 or 2 in the morning. Now, that's not been to much of a big deal for the rest of the days as we've note needed to travel on the next day... which means that we can have the morning off to sleep in. However, today...the journey meant that we needed to be on a train (for about 7 hours...) at about 8 in the morning... which meant an early start if you wanted breakfast... plus the packing... 

So, starting the day with a small amount of sleep already... Never mind, I can catch it up on the train... EXCEPT... the carriage that we had booked our seats on was out of order... so we had to move around the seats on the other carriages... hoping that we wouldn't get thrown off the seat when the person who had actually booked it arrived on the train. In Germany, you have the option of booking a seat reservation at a small extra cost (or 1st/2nd class tickets as well...). It's something that I always do... if you are travelling long distances for work, you want a guaranteed seat for the whole trip... unless some dick decides that they don't want to get up (...yep that happens, arseholery is universal...). 

Anyway, that meant I was shunting from seat to seat... as each stop would have different people coming on claiming reservations... and there was a whole carriage of reserved seating that was wandering up and down the train trying to find seats... plus the normal unreserved seating crowd! Needless to say, I didn't sleep on the train... I must have moved seats around 5 times...and in the heat, people start to get a little cranky as well...

Anyway, I did manage to catch up some Diablo 3 on the Switch... at least I could pass the time like that... however, now I'm in the hotel... with internet access again! A quick post and then a quick shower (it's really hot...).... before heading down to the concert hall in tails... with the audience none the wiser!

.... if I thought today was bad... tomorrow, the pickup time for my flight is 645.... I think I will skip breakfast....

Ow dude...that sounds like the trainride from hell.. I have also learned about the German seat reservation the hard way with standing from dusseldorf to berlin once all the way. Never again am I NOT going to reserve, especially in summer time. (it is 5 euro per reservation)

what kind of music are yall playing then while touring? And ...is there another stop in Switzerland? :D

It's definitely worth the price... I know other people prefer to wing it... But when you are doing a long travel it just isn't worth the risk!

No Switzerland this time... Heading back to Netherlands tomorrow! We are touring with a set of Bach cantatas, just a single concert in this region, the rest was up north...

Oh yikes, hope you get some rest to catch up on soon!  That sounds like a tough trip.  We had a vacation like that a few years ago where we moved rooms literally every night!  I decided to try out a program where they basically let fitness professionals stay for a ridiculously discounted rate if you taught a few exercise classes a day on the resort.  Sounded like a great way to get a nice vacation at a place we wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise, but they overbooked the hotel and since we were low down on the list of priorities we got bumped repeatedly.  Not only that, but we got the crappiest rooms--that all had issues.  The last night the AC in the room wouldn't shut off so it felt like an igloo!  Needless to say I haven't ever ventured to do that kind of trip again.
