My Collaboration with Fiona Apple and Margaret Cho

In 2010 I was approached by comedian Margaret Cho about co-producing an album she was working on of collaborations with her favorite singer/songwriters.

I happily jumped into making the album "Cho-Dependent" that included collaborations with Tegan and Sara, AC Newman, Brendan Benson, Patty Griffin, Andrew Bird, Jon Brion, Grant Lee Phillips, Garrisson Starr, Ani DiFranco and myself.

I loved the experience of helping facilitating her comedic/musical vision and we even scored a nomination for a 2011 Grammy award for Best Comedy Album!

This might be my favorite song that we worked on - a duet Margaret performs with Fiona Apple called "Hey Big Dog". Margaret wrote it in honor of her dog that had died recently. Fiona plays Margaret's dog in the song, and while it is humorous, it is also tender and touching in a way I haven't really heard the human/animal bond portrayed in song before.

Wow - So cool - I'm a big fan of  Fiona Apple, Ben Folds, Jason Schwartzman, Josh Radnor, and  Andrew Bird.  My wife and I are hooked on Homeland with Claire Danes.  I think it should be six degrees of Ben Lee instead of Kevin Bacon - just saying:)
