I was a long poem writer when I first started writing poetry.  It was a pleasure to stretch my poems to the ends of literature.  I would go so far away that I got lost and sometimes couldn’t find my back, to the heart of the matter.  These epic days are mostly in my rearview.  I might get carried away now and then and let the words scatter out of reach. But most times it’s all about brevity for me.  I wrap up quick, to the heart of the matter and nothing besides.
 
You could blame it on the proliferation of short attention spans in this age. There’s a lot of truth to that.  No way am watching an entire film without doing other things.  I can hardly sit still.  There’s so much to do, so much media to consume.  The other reason would be that I have evolved in my art.  I don’t like long winding anymore.  I definitely don’t have the patience to drone on ad nauseam.  As soon as the idea hits my brain am already finished with the poem.  Is just a matter of uploading it to its own space and time.  Short and sharp works best for me now.  Hard and real in the zeitgeist is how I do my art.  
 
It’s always good to evolve.  You are a slightly different beast from your 2016 self.  However subtle, you have definitely changed a little and that’s a good thing. Like Childish Gambino said recently, it is time to retire the rapper entity Childish Gambino.  And am totally in agreement.  Childish had his time.  Served his purpose in hiphop.  The time has come to move on, bow to other stages of his life.  We all have to do that.  Bend to the next chapter of our life wherever it is calling from.  Change will come even if fear is its shadow.   Change is relentless. In my case change is less than 15 lines long when the next poem needs to speak.
