For me, I had hopes that Steem was going to be the blockchain platform to tokenized all corners of the social and content web but now it feels like a small, niche social club or community more or less.

I hope so but Steem Engine does enable almost the exact functionality of SMTs and Communities so I think anyone who would launch one has or should be experimenting on SE. It's been fun to watch SE but SE has not moved the needle of Steem's marketcap relative to other projects in the space.
