The head of Nasdaq added that he does not know which cryptocurrency will be able to provide such an opportunity, but expressed confidence that over time "such a useful property will be formed".

According to her, cryptocurrencies have reached the peak of the technology maturity cycle, and at the moment more players are involved in the industry. Nasdaq, said the head of the company, is also involved in this market, providing a number of crypto-currency exchanges with technical means of observation and market information.

Adena Friedman also touched upon the fundamental blockchain technology, noting that although it has the potential for scaling and can be useful for some markets, it is not yet able to maintain ultra-high trading volumes.

"There is a high degree of inefficiency where instead of automation paper processes are used, where everything is stored in a box, as in the case of non-emission securities. Therefore, we should use the blockchain in private markets with its long cycles of payments," she said.

She also added that in the future blockchain will remain a remarkable technology with revolutionary potential in the long term and which will become "a very interesting tool in our business".
