A Visit to UNESCO World Heritage Site - Mỹ Sơn Temples, Quảng Nam Province in Central Vietnam

Mỹ Sơn  is often compared to Angkor Wat in Cambodia or Borobudur in Indonesia, and its not difficult to see why. This once glorious complex of temples is not much more than ruins now, after much existing for nearly 1000 years, much of it was destroyed in a single week from carpet bombing during the Vietnam War.

Mỹ Sơn is located in a large vallet flanked by mountain ranges in central Vietnam. It contained over 70 Hindu temples and was also a royal burial ground during the Cham Kingdom. The temples which were constructed from the 4th to 14th century AD were dedicated to the God Shiva, and is still considered as one of the foremost Hindu temple complexes ever built. We visited on a wet and rainy day in December and i took these pics of what remains of its former greatness.
