<html><center> <p> <strong>TheBloodyCritique’s ‘Jessica Jones’ Season 1 Review</strong></p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/HfIDyEc.png"/> </p> <p>I’m not aware of the Jessica Jones origin story but the show seems to be set after some sort a brief stint she had as a superhero, her powers being super strength and the ability to jump really high, and now, having walked away from it, is trying to rebuild her career as a private investigator. Her first real case begins when the parents of a girl who mysteriously disappeared hire her to find their daughter, Jessica takes the case and upon looking into it realises that she’s more attached to it than she realised. Kilgrave, a man with the ability to make people do his bidding through mind control, is involved and it brings up some very bad memories for Jessica. </p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/JZwOSzy.jpg"/> </p> <p>I’m gradually making my way through what I’m going to refer to as the MTU (Marvel’s Television Universe) and that’s three down now! I loved the first season of Daredevil, I’d say it was great! The second season was disappointing though, it’s an okay and The Punisher was a solid good! Jessica Jones is the worst one so far, it’s a bad okay, meaning it’s okay but not as okay as Daredevil’s second season. There’s a lot of problems with Jessica Jones, it’s very sloppily written, visually generic and the performances were mostly underwhelming, I don’t know what they were even going for with this, the tone was all over the place, let’s discuss!</p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/9pLJYcO.jpg"/> </p> <p>What’s Jessica Jones about? At its core it’s about a woman overcoming a controlling spousal figure, that’s it, Jessica Jones vs. Kilgrave is the narrative thrust of the show and well, over thirteen episodes it’s spread very thin indeed! The main problem though was the fact that I wasn’t invested in Jessica Jones as a character, in fact, I hated her, she’s rude, she’s self-centred, she treats people like shit, she expects everyone to bend over backwards for her, she’s in no way a sympathetic character, I didn’t like her at all, I was rooting for Kilgrave! Krysten Ritter’s performance was one note the entire time, check her face in the pictures I used, it’s that note! </p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/xDF6bzG.jpg"/> </p> <p>Marvel definitely want us to think Jessica Jones is cool and rebellious but that isn’t how it came across at all, they tried to give her some darkness but it didn’t work and the constant references to her being an alcoholic also fell flat, what does it matter? Constant shots of empty whisky bottles and her drinking to shove the idea of her being an alcoholic down our throats, it’s never a problem though, it doesn’t affect her so who cares, it makes no difference, it’s just a failed attempt at making her feel more edgy but it come across as extremely forced! </p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/YaHzZ8A.jpg"/> </p> <p>Luke Cage was alright although he’s only a side character in this and I’m already bored of him, that’s what I’m watching next, yay! He’s a likeable enough character but his relationship with Jessica was a little forced and when the show gets deeper into his backstory my eyes were rolling a bit. When I first saw David Tennant I couldn’t take him seriously but as the show went on he grew on me and became my favourite character, there’s a three episode stretch of solid entertainment in Jessica Jones and it’s because of him and his character, Jessica Jones herself remains a drip of course no matter what episode it is or what’s happening! </p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/bknsLih.jpg"/> </p> <p>I liked the fact that Jessica Jones never puts on a stupid little leather suit, Daredevil ended for me once he puts that suit on, how am I supposed to take anything he does seriously now!? I thought Carries Anne Moss delivered a great performance and I found her character pretty interesting, she’s always great, I also liked really liked Robin Weigert’s performance as Wendy, she’s also always great! Everyone else was fairly forgettable, these characters don’t seem to have any real motivation for their actions and when the show tries to give us a dramatic character moment it’s void of any emotional impact! It’s poorly written and generically filmed with underwhelming performances and even a bit of sloppy editing.</p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/XcnGFv3.jpg"/> </p> <p>I can’t recommend Jessica Jones, the worst thing it did was bore me, it’s not completely terrible, it’s not offensive or anything! It’s just an extremely underwhelming and forgettable show, nothing it did felt like it hit the mark, it felt amateur! I wasn’t invested in the characters or the story or even the premise! Every aspect of Jessica Jones was mediocre and I’m gonna give it 5.5/10. It hasn’t set me up with any great expectations for Luke Cage but I’m committed now and I will, if needs be, suffer through this shit so that you don’t have to! I haven't seen it and considering your opinion about that show I will probably keep it that way...we have so many great tv series to choose from these days, there's no point in watching something that's merely ok. Thanks for your review...quite solid, quite natural (I had impression that you had writen down some previously spoken words) and quite hm, energetic (maybe a little too much - I think that removing some of the explanations marks may do some good to that post).

Yeah I've got an issue with exclamation marks, they always feel right though! I'm actively working on it Lol, yeah def agree that there's too many great shows to justify spending any time on sub-par releases such as this, I suffer so that others don't have to! Appreciate your input thank you.

i quite enjoined it especially the villain part. i think killgrave with David Tennant saved the show. The best one for me was daredevil and the worst one ironfist ( which i hoped it would be the n1)

Kilgrave was the best thing about the show I agree but I just feel like they didn't utilize the potential of his character, there's not enough depth to him and there easily could have been, he's got nothing on Fisk! The first season of Daredevil's def the best so far, the second was disappointing though.
