I recently got called in for jury duty service and was in the pool of potential jurors for a few cases.  One case was going to be going an estimated 180 days and another was going to be going an estimated 30 days!  Thankfully, I had valid excuses where I could get out of those two cases, but I did not have an excuse for the 3rd case I got called on, which was expected to be for 5 days.

Here’s how it went down: I got called in to the courtroom and was seated in the jury box, and then interviewed by the Judge and Attorneys.  One of the questions they asked me was about my family’s involvement in the military and law enforcement – I have a number of close family members who serve in both.  It is likely due to this perceived bias that the defense attorneys dismissed me from the jury during the jury selection process, though I feel I could have been fair and impartial to both sides.

The process took two days, and they do not pay you for the first day where I live.  So, I got a check for my service on the second day as well as a reimbursement for travel to the courtroom…


Guess how much???  Drumroll please….

$20.10!  A check arrived about a week after I was dismissed so now I have money burning a hole in my pocket!

 

Honestly though, I spent $22 on lunch in Los Angeles over those two days and also used about $20 in gas for my truck – I certainly am in the red overall!  Oh well!
