Unique Plant

Hi Friends,

I was on a bike ride with my kids and we came across this strange looking plant thing (maybe you can call this a tree??? who knows!):

I have never seen anything like this and wondered if they had to do something special to it to get to grow like that or if it is how the plan grows.  We stopped to take a picture and admire it - they probably get that a lot given how unique it is!

Have you seen anything like this before?  Do you know what this plant might be called?

truly remarkable! My first thought was that it was a archway trellis that they built and then it was some sort of a vine, but that looks solid. Whatever it is, it is amazing!
