Good things come in pretty packages

Wrapping up my online orders is the last step in the handmade selling process but something that us creative makers often overlook.

The power of consistency

Recently I have been consumed with a re-branding of my label. I ditched a stack of old product designs I had been making for years and have focused in my collection.

Running my own solo label means that I do everything. I make the product, created my website, do product photography and styling, social media, marketing etc.... In the beginning stage I dived right in, trying new things and adopting different approaches. I found things that worked and others that did not. But without a focused vision for my brand, things started to emerge in a rather adhoc fashion. Over the years I chopped and changed looks and styles.

So my recent purge has been about refining my brand and cutting out anything that does not fit in with the vision. I have even created a branding guide that I use ALL the time. I can't believe I did not do this sooner.

Calico Packaging

I want the whole customer experience to be seamless. From the moment a customer visits my store right through to receiving a package in the mail, my narrative must be consistent and affirmed repeatedly.

Previously, I packaged up my online orders with whatever funky materials I had on hand, the final look differed from order to order, month to month. There was no consistency, even if each parcel looked adorable.

I wanted to change that. I have always loved the simplicity of calico bags and decided to use these to house my products. They are useful too, which for the customer is a bonus gift. Plain calico is not original. I design and make pieces for those that lead a vivacious life and seek beautiful robust accessories to last the adventures. My packaging needs to reflect this and be unique to me.

I mucked around with a few different hand dying techniques (I am going with the shibori one) and love the earthy yet pretty and feminine result. It was fun experimenting with tie dying techniques so I thought I would share the process with you.

So what do you think? Would you be happy to receive one of these pretty little bags in the mail?

I have re-done my website too. It has been a mission but my re-branding is already producing results. I feel cleansed and liberated and pretty darn excited already for what 2017 is going to bring.

Until next time,

Being a hippie at heart, I love tie dye, so yes, I'd love a bag like that.
