The Fleeting Imagery Of A Road Trip

<p>My favourite place to escape to for a few days, is over the other side of the mountain range from here. From home to our favourite home away from home, it is a three hour drive. &nbsp;We leave behind granite cropped country, cross the Great Dividing Range and head down to the lush fertile coastal plains on the other side. The change in vegetation and climate is distinct. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p><br>
The highway passes through half a dozen small towns and rest stops. For the most part, it is just us and the open road. We usually drive straight through, save for a quick toilet and coffee break. The drive is gorgeous, even if sometimes I don't see it. It is easy to get dulled by familiarity. I have done the drive many times before. I know the road well. &nbsp;&nbsp;<br>
</p>
<p>We pass the time flipping between animated discussion, gazing out the window and listening to music or podcasts. &nbsp;&nbsp;<br>
</p>
<p>I love the familiar hum of tyres on bitumen. These gentle vibrations lull me into a dreamy state. The sun flashes behind trees during long stretches of forest. When we break through the bush, at the top of the range, the view down to the shimmering coast is stunning.<br>
</p>
<p>Despite how often we do the drive, there is always a heady sense of freedom on the open road. We leave behind our little home and life, ready for adventure. I wanted to try and capture the exuberance of our road trip, the repetition of road and delightful scenery flashing by!&nbsp;</p>

Countryside is therapy for the soul. I spent the best part of 10 years living in the concrete jungle. I loved it at the time. City life seemed to suit me in my 20's. But for the past 4 years, the quiet country life is my home.

Those are some lovely pictures. I don't know where you're from, but I'll guess from the street signs using kilometers instead of miles, and the palm trees, it's probably New Zealand? Am I right? My husband's nephew moved there a couple of years ago from the States, and he loves it. He's marrying a girl there in December, and I think he plans to stay. :)

We go up to my dad's vacation cabin sometimes, but it's a 10 hour drive, which is a much more exhausting trip. My dad and his girlfriend make the drive every other month or so. I don't know how they do it. Once a year is more than enough for me.

Anyway, thanks for the pictures. They're really lovely, and I enjoyed reading about how much you love your little getaways.

I love that idea! I collect crochet blankets but now have more than I could ever use, so I collect them for my shop. My husband was telling me tonight that Steemit is getting a few new features soon which include private messaging so co-ordinated posts will soon be easier to do!
