Yep, rent is outrageous in most big cities when compared to a mortgage.

I'm thinking a housing bubble part two is being created, but it may be a while before it pops...

This is really dependent on location.  Here in CT, I couldn't imagine buying a home right now.  They are overpriced for the average middle-class family.  I'm holding out until either another crash and I can find some space cheaper, or I really build up my savings and I can put 40 or 50% down.

This will eventually have an impact. I live in NY and when I drive around Manhattan I see so many stores closed. I’m sure that main reason is the skyrocketing lease cost. It will eventually spread from commercial to residential, where people will not be able to cover their cost for rent. I think it’s already happening, people are moving more to the suburbs. We can say that something will eventually gives up.

Nothing against home ownership for those it makes sense for, but there's an extent to which it's artificially been made part of "the American dream" through e.g. tax engineering to benefit contractors and mortgage lenders. For some people, renting makes more sense. For example, people whose careers have them traveling a lot and/or moving every few years are better off renting and investing in something other than a home, rather than locking themselves into a 20-year mortgage and hoping they can sell at a profit part of the way into that mortgage.

I think that home ownership is declining because of lower interest rates and cheap money there has been enormous price inflation in assets including housing. While lower interest rates make affording a house easier, I believe that this has also caused the general price of real estate to also rise more negating this benefit. 

I do also think there is also a psychological shift in the younger generations especially in millenials against homeownership.

Invest in a house is good, the problem is the price on USA, usually we need to make an agreement with the bank to complete the payment of the house in maybe 10, 15, 20 years... a lot of things may happen in that period of time, i mean, for me 20 years is almost the half of your life paying for a house... we should invest on our knowledge to find easier way to get money and create our business, if your business is good developed, you will be able to purchase maybe 3 houses in that time that, so you will be able to receive incomes renting the place.

Just like the student debt you talked about yesterday, this is another example of a rigged and/or defective system.

This is a fairly troubling trend 😟.  I would hate to live in a society where the only feasible way for the common citizen to live in a house is to rent from a big corporation.   I am not too confident that prices will remain in an affordable range.  Looking at America's health care system, people are charged unaffordable rates due to the fact that health care is a MUST.  I believe housing is in the same boat of necessity.   

We would essentially be dogs to corporations in yet another areana of our lives...

I completely agree. House prices are completely inflated by debt. Who buys houses with cash anymore? not the middle class!

I believe that one of the major factors affecting home ownership currently is a demographic one. With the leading edge of 80 million millennials just a few years away from entering home buying age we should begin to see a rebound of those numbers over the next decade. 

As hard as it is to believe in the millennial generation currently with their high student debt and unconventional views related to their roles in society. I believe they to will follow the typical path followed by generations before them. They will [begin to spend and earn more](https://imgur.com/XJu7MNJ) and much of that will be [directed to housing](https://imgur.com/jeTUcsl) as their earning power increases.

In the end the market will adjust to the coming demand.
