It has always been the idea that Blockchain, and in general, Bitcoin's cryptographic network was practically impossible to break on or "Hack", this has caught the attention of many developers who try to test this belief. One of these projects in search of a vulnerability in the blockchain is the Large Bitcoin Collider (LBC).

The initiative of this project is under the responsibility of a legendary developer of BitcoinTalk, known under the pseudonym "RICO", that after studying the possibility of a collision of cryptography in the network Bitcoin launched the project in 2016.

Its name comes from the reference to the Large Hadron Collider of CERN used to accelerate and collide particles to verify the validity of the standard model of particle physics, while the work of RICO seeks to find a cryptographic collision in the private keys of Bitcoin , Using brute force.

This software is currently available to anyone who is willing to participate using their computing power, and is able to randomly generate millions of private keys and then compare them to the existing list of Bitcoin addresses with funds; Finding a match is possible to enter the wallet with funds and remove them.

It is not only a question of "cracking" a pair of wallets, the possibility of it happening also depends on two different hash entries producing the same output. This would mean the Bitcoin cryptographic breakdown, revealing a vulnerability that allows to subtract funds from the network.

I think that this project is directed mainly to the field of research, it is clear that the network of Bitcoin is almost impossible to corrupt. Although there is a background where Google experts succeeded in breaking the SHA-1 encryption hash after 20 years, after being created by the United States government, the Bitcoin network for its complexity is estimated to require around 0.65 billion Years to achieve this.

## The creator of the project states the following:
***
>"Because current consensus is "that's impossible" and that is a gauntlet thrown down. It is a technical challenge and in mankind history, many things deemed impossible later turned out to be perfectly possible. This project is the practice part of the theory behind Bitcoin encryption and protection of funds. See our take at the theory behind all this."

***
Likewise, from the legal point of view of the project, this has a dark side, and if any person could access a wallet with funds from his computer could keep with 10% of the funds of that wallet "Violated":
***
> "Depending on your jurisdiction, this may be considered theft and is therefore illegal. However, there are many jurisdictions where you could perfectly legally claim 5-10% of the value found. So you should consider if you want 100% and become a criminal or if you get 10% and still be a law abiding citizen."
***
Currently LBC has generated more than Three Thousand Trillion of private keys and has only managed to access three portfolios that contained few funds, that after being reported in [Bitcoinalk](https://bitcointalk.org/), the funds are transferred to a special safe account and the legitimate owner is subsequently contacted For the return of the funds.
***
## Another important issue about this software is that it has been proven that this allows remote access to the computer where it is installed, allowing its manipulation and possible access to your Bitcoin.
***
### Expert developer Emin Gün Sirer says:
***
>"The code clearly contains a back door. It is written so that the server operator can instruct clients to perform any task. "
***
On this subject the creator "RICO" defends itself to say that to be able to install the program does not need to have any wallet and if the user decides to stay with the subtracted funds the program is self-destruct erasing of the system. He also warned: "If you do not trust the LBC, do not use the LBC."

***
***
## We can think then that the actual possibility of being able to "Crack" the Bitcoin network is not yet clear. Which gives a point in favor to this wonderful and revolutionary technology as it is the Blockchain.
