The NASA

has developed a new compact spectrometer to look for life in a future mission to the surface of Europe, the icy moon of Jupiter that hides an ocean of liquid water.

The new instrument is designed to detect compounds and minerals associated with biological activity more quickly and with greater sensitivity than previous instruments.

It has been developed by researchers at NASA's Langley Research Center and the University of Hawaii, as an improvement on an analytical technique known as micro Raman spectroscopy. This technique uses the interaction between laser light and a sample to provide information on chemical composition on a microscopic scale.

"Our instrument is one of the most advanced Raman spectrometers ever developed," said M. Nurul Abedin of the Langley Research Center, which led the research team.

"It overcomes some of the key limitations of traditional micro Raman instruments and is designed to serve as an ideal instrument for future missions that use 'rovers' or landers to explore the surface of Mars or the icy moon of Jupiter's Europe."

In the journal 'The Optical Society Applied Optics', researchers report that their new system, which they call the ultra-compact micro Raman instrument (SUCR), is the first to perform micro-Raman analysis of samples at 10 centimeters from the instrument, with a resolution of 17.3 microns.

The new spectrometer is significantly faster than other micro Raman instruments and extremely compact. These features are important for space applications and could also make the instrument useful for biomedical and food analysis in real time, according to 'The Optical Society'.
![DQmXkybbvb7W5eWX4mvD3BBRdrh5LZD73hyuu1DkqB4AxD8.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXkybbvb7W5eWX4mvD3BBRdrh5LZD73hyuu1DkqB4AxD8/DQmXkybbvb7W5eWX4mvD3BBRdrh5LZD73hyuu1DkqB4AxD8.png)
¿What is Jupiter?
Jupiter is not only a planet of large dimensions. Was it a devourer of matter that was left with the remains of dust and gas in the formation of the Solar System?

Is it a star project because of its composition of helium and hydrogen like any sun? Was it a migrant body that devastated everything to make way for the neighborhood we know today?

Do you allow life in any of its 60 moons like Europe or Ganymede? Is the response to the formation of life under its storms of gigantic proportions?

There are many questions that assail us and from which we hope to get answers thanks to Juno, although surely new questions will come
