There are a lot of nature-rich areas in Chiang Mai, this is kind of a massive part of the appeal of the region.  Even though there are over a million people in the city and outlying sub-districts, you still don't have to travel very far to be surrounded by largely untouched nature. 

The location we went to on Saturday just happens to be one of my favorites because of the hilly and rather unforgiving terrain.

Unlike a lot of the other places that we set trail this one almost always starts out the same and that is by climbing up the rock wall directly behind the parking area.  Although I can't say for certain, i think that our members, who make the trails actually have a shred of humanity and compassion towards the other runners and recognize that it would probably be best to have people climb up this area that probably stands the best chance of injuring someone who isn't "fresh"... so, thank you for that.

Once you arrive at the other side of this climb the hilly terrain doesn't all of a sudden plateau though, and everyone that comes to this particular location is very aware of the fact that hash runs here are going to be more like a back-breaking hill climb than a run.  

For some people this is hell, but for other like me, i actually prefer it over long flat runs.  And even though some of our lazier members in "Bendover" and "Ob Kham" set trail it didn't really come as a surprise that it was uphill both ways (no snow.)  I think I speak for everyone when I say I was relieved to arrive back at the start / finish area.

I continue to be surprised / impressed / happy at the turnout we have been getting and it makes me wonder about how many people would be at these things if it weren't for the fact that nearly half of our members are currently unable to re-enter the country due to the borders being almost completely locked down.  

This was also "Skidmark"s first run as the General Manager and I suppose he did about as terribly as everyone figured he would do.  Nobody died or even suffered any sort of injury so that is a plus.

These photos give the impression that almost everyone in our kennel is 100 years old but a lot of this has to do with the fact that the younger members are part of the highest percentage of people that have been locked out of the country with no clear sign as to when or if they are going to be able to get back in. 

The weather was clear (albeit very hot) and a good time was had by all.  I'm impressed with the turnout, but if you are in the area we are always looking for more.  You'll not find a better deal for $8 anywhere else!  

We have runs scheduled 3x for this week, and every other week into the foreseeable future.
