作者明确说明了自己的写作目的包括三个层面：
1.让人们了解美满的生活状态下潜意识系统是什么样子
2.阐明意识和潜意识是如何相互影响和配合的
3.寄望于通过令政策制定者更深刻的认识人类的本性从而使政策更顺利的达到预期。
当然是被最后一个原因圈粉的。
作者尝试用讲故事的方式，以一对儿成功夫妻的一生为例，把自己认可的研究人员对潜意识的学术成果灌输给读者，希望带来积极的社会效益。

1-3章，通过男主人公父母的相爱、婚姻、生子三个阶段，提出个体的反应是受到基因、信仰、文化等潜在影响的结果。刚开始对书中的这句“我们之所以成为现在我们这样的人，在很大程度上是因为别人成为了现在他们那样的人”感到费解，现在有了自己的解读：别人——继承其生物基础的祖辈、日常生活接触到的各类人物，都是影响个体思维的重要因素，这种影响潜在且不受控。作者用婴儿与父母行为的互动，用“躯体标记假说”“信息流代代相传”“类对话”“镜像神经元”等很专业化的语言进行解释说明，我只能提炼出：
潜意识层面是本书重要解说之所在，这里包括情感、思维、反应等抽象化名词。其中情感是我们判断事物价值的依据；人类通过情感共鸣形成了道德；思维具有强烈的渗透性，形成人与人之间看不见的交流网。
