Hello everyone and welcome to the beginning of work week for us in crisis region of Cameroon. I know my friends in different countries will wonder why work starts on Tuesday instead of Monday? It’s a normal phenomenon to us English speaking Cameroonians as Mondays are observed as ghost town imposed by separatists fighters.
It’s quite been long I stopped work due to reasons beyond my control. I am happy to resume work today. Thus, I wake up from bed at 4:30AM, to prepare breakfast for the family and equally prepare myself for work. My office opens at 8:00am and close at 5pm. When I got up from bed this at 4:30, I had to do my morning meditation 🧘♀️, later went to the kitchen to make breakfast. Since it’s my first day at work in a new office, I had to make sure I’m punctual and respect time.
By 6:55am, I had finalised preparing breakfast and then took my bath. After eating my breakfast, I took a taxi to my office. Upon arrival at the office, I noticed I was too early and had to seat outside while waiting for the work hours for work to start. I sat down for some minutes and the coordinator came, and opened the office. She already had field work programmed. We just had to clean the office before heading to the field.
My best moments at work are when I’m in the field. I find pleasure doing fieldwork. We intended to identify over 40 GBV respondents in Bamenda I and Bamenda II subdivisions of the North west region of Cameroon. We have less than a week to identify at least 40 GBV respondents in Bamlikimbat, Bamenda I, II, and III, identify 5 quater heads per community, identify 5 religious leaders per community and 5 traditional councils per community.
By 4:00pm, we were exhausted for the day and decided to retire home. Upon arrival home, I was so tired, and hungry. I decided to take a bath and nap for some time.
Before I could noticed, it was already 6:00pm. My husband asked me to rest well so that I will not fall sick. I was hungry and need led to look for something to eat. I decided to go for fast food, that is plantain and pork. Unfortunately I’m not a lover of fast food but today had to try it. The experience was bad as the plantain was not well cooked. I had to eat just the pork and throw away the plantain.
By 8:00pm, I decided to watch soccer game (Europa 2020) between France and Germany. I could not watch the game till the end as I was exhausted for the day.
