Book Review - Day 9
Hello, Steemheads. Welcome to book review day 9. Every week, I will be talking about one or two books I enjoyed reading. I call myself ‘irregular bookworm.’ I love books like that, I can’t help it. Bibliophile and nerd sound too serious. LOL. The books I’ll be talking about may be your best or worst books, so read with an open mind.

The previous weeks' reviews have been good so far. I’m kind of combining both African literature and books from all parts of the world. They are mostly literary fiction.

This week, however, I want to do a little genre fiction. I have three books by **Nora Roberts.** It’s the three books from the **Donovan Legacy Series.** It’s about three cousins – Morgana, Sabastian and Anastasia born to three siblings, Padrick, Mathew, Douglas and Bryna, Camilla, Maureen - triplets each who married each other. The six of them were witches. They recognised their destinies and married, each couple fated to have one child. Their children were born witches too but they had different abilities. Morgana was a witch through and through. Sabastian had psychic abilities and Ana was a healer and an empath, which made her the most vulnerable. If there is anyone who knows how to combine romance and the supernatural, it’s Nora Roberts. I’ll give an overview of each book followed by excerpts.

Enjoy!

The story followed Morgana Donovan, a twenty-eight year old witch who ran a shop and lived discreetly. Her life changed the day Nash Kirkland, a fantasy fiction writer and film maker walked through the door of her shop. Nash never believed in the supernatural. He wrote stories and that was just it. He, however, got more than he bargained for when he walked into Wicca and landed, literally on the laps of a real witch.

Here’s an excerpt:
>There was a marker in the ground where the Witch Tree had stood. The people of Monterey and Carmel valued nature. Tourists often came to study the words on the marker, or simply to stand and look at the sculpted old trees, the rocky shoreline, the stunning harbor seals. Locals who had seen the tree for themselves, who remembered the day it had fallen, often mentioned the fact that Morgana Donovan had been born that night. Some said it was a sign, others shrugged and called it coincidence. Still more wondered. No one denied that it was excellent local color to have a self proclaimed witch born hardly a stone’s throw away from the tree with a reputation.
>Nash Kirkland considered it an amusing fact and an interesting hook. He spent a great deal of his time studing the supernatural. Vampires and werewolves and the things that went bump in the night were a hell of a way to make a living. And he wouldn’t have it any other way. Not that he believed in goblins and ghoulies – or witches, if it came to that.

Number two is ***Entranced.***

It followed Sabastian Donovan, a witch and a psychic, born into riches and made his living through real estate, but preferred to use his abilities to help people and the government. He met Mary Ellen, a private investigator when the child of her friend was kidnapped and they needed help finding him. Mel had heard of Sabastian but she never believed in any of that. She agreed to seek his help as a favour to her friend and for the child she loved. But what if she was wrong? She ended up falling not just for the man but for his powers as well.

An excerpt:
>She dreamed of a man who was dreaming of her. But he wasn’t sleeping. She could see, with a prefect clarity that was extremely undreamlike, that he was standing by a wide, dark window, with his arms relaxed by his sides. But his face was very tense, very purposeful. And his eyes… They were so deep, so unrelenting. Gray, she thought as she twisted in sleep. But not quite gray. There were hints of blue, as well. The color of them reminded her of rocks hacked out of a high cliff one moment, and of the soft, calm waters of a lake the next.
>Strange—how strange—she knew that his face was taut and tensed, but she couldn't see it. Just those eyes, those fascinating, disturbing eyes.
>And she knew he was thinking of her. Not just thinking of her, but somehow seeing her. As if she had walked up to the other side of that glass, stood there looking back at him through the wide windowpane. Somehow she was certain that if she lifted a hand to that glass her fingers would pass right through it until they found his.
>If she chose to.
>Instead, she thrashed, tangling the sheets and muttering in her sleep. Even in dreams Mel Sutherland didn't care for the illogical. Life had rules, very basic rules. She firmly believed you were better off following them. So she didn’t reach for the glass or for him. She rolled, almost violently, knocking a pillow to the floor and willing the dream away. It faded, and, both relived and disappointed, she dropped deeper into a dreamless sleep.

Anastasia Donovan had lived all her life as a witch, a healer and an empath. She liked solitude and spent most of her time alone in her house by the beach, tending her flowers. She had fallen in love once when she was younger, but her love was rejected when the young man discovered what she truly was, and she had been keeping to herself ever since. However, things change one afternoon when she saw a face peeing at her through her flowers. The face belonged to Jessica, a six year old who had moved into the house next door with her dad. Ana loved her immediately, but Jessie’s father, Boone was another case. What would happen as their irresistible attraction grow? Would her love be shoved into her face the second time?

Excerpt:

>When she saw the little girl peek through the fairy roses, Anastasia had no idea the child would change her life. She'd been humming to herself, as she often did when she gardened, enjoying the scent and the feel of earth. The warm September sun was golden, and the gentle whoosh of the sea on the rocks below her sloping yard was a lovely background to the buzzing of bees and the piping of birdsong. Her long gray cat was stretched out beside her, his tail twitching in time with some feline dream.
>A butterfly landed soundlessly on her hand, and she stroked the edge of its pale blue wings with a fingertip. As it fluttered off, she heard the rustling. Glancing over, she saw a small face peeping through the hedge of fairy roses.
>Ana's smile came quickly, naturally. The face was charming, with its little pointed chin and its pert nose, its big blue eyes mirroring the color of the sky. A pixie cap of glossy brown hair completed the picture.
>The girl smiled back, those summer-sky eyes full of curiosity and mischief.
>“ Hello," Ana said, as if she always found little girls in her rosebushes.
>The girl's voice was bright, and a little breathless.
