The "Mirhab" is a kind of niche that serves to indicate the direction of Mecca, the place to which prayers are addressed, but not this one! Not that of Cordoba!
It is said that Ab Al - Rahman, expelled from Damascus, decided to orientate the Mirhab of the Mosque of Cordoba in a south - east direction, that is towards his hometown, since such was the nostalgia he felt.

Next to the "Mirhab" is the "Maqsura", the place reserved for the caliph where he could observe the faithful praying.
