It's all good: I got reunited with my luggage without any stress (in case you were wondering, since the cliffhanger of my last post... ;)) When I came to the luggage belt in Chiang Mai, it was already waiting there for me.

**Bummer of the day:** I had been told I had to bring €500 cash to Thailand, as a requirement for my visa. So I did.
Nobody checked. So there actually was no need for that.

When I exchanged it to Thai Baht, I lost 10% in the process. At a booth that had printed "no fees" on the outside... *Ten percent!!!*

I can't wait for the day when we will only deal will global currencies anymore...

Since I had messed up my hotel booking of the first night, I had booked another a little too quickly the day before I left. I ended up in the tiniest hotel room of the world...

So I spent my first day yesterday figuring out where I want to stay longer term, and how to get around.

There's **Uber** and there's **Grab** and then there's all these red sort of pick-up trucks, that just collect people on the street, from anywhere to anywhere. I've never heard of Grab before, but it is a cool app - a bit like Uber, only that you pay cash. And you can message with the driver while he's trying to find you.

I cancelled 3 drivers yesterday, after sending them aimlessly through the city, before I got tired of their inability to read maps, and hopped on a red pick-up truck. (When I met @suzanevolves for dinner today, she explained me how the app *actually* works and I noticed that *I was the stupid one* of course. Ooops... Sorry Grab drivers!)

I was happy to finally be in bed after around 24 hours, and slept super well *until 1.20am*. The rest of the night I watched youtube videos on psychic and astrological cryptocurrency predictions. As you do.

I must have fallen asleep again at some point, because I woke up around 11am just in time for check-out...

So today I moved to hotel number 2. When I checked in for a week, the receptionist said I should pay day by day instead of for the whole week. Like he didn't have any confidence I will indeed stay for a week, once I've seen the room...

Turns out, I booked the second tiniest hotel room in the city... with a direct view on the hospital walls! Oh well. I don't plan to spend much time inside anyway.

I took myself for lunch at [Cube No. 7](https://www.wongnai.com/restaurants/129030ZU-cube-no-7-coffee-eatery) so I'll know where it is, because that's where the weekly Bitcoin meetups take place here.

And voila, I was presented with my first real life Bitcoin ATM!! I had never seen one before, since they are still banned in Germany...

In the evening I met up with @suzanevolves after not having seen her for 3 or so years, since I moved away from The Hague. We met at the beautiful [Fern Forest Café](https://www.facebook.com/FernForestCafe/).

Wow, that's quite the "adventure" you're on there!

Tiny hotel rooms seem to be quite common in Asia, and even expected. I know in Japan they even have "cubicles" (just about big enough that you can lay down and sleep) for hire... small space is just part of the culture.

I’ve actually staid in something similar in a hostel in Samui a few times - it’s not that bad actually, totally doable when you’re on a budget.
