> According to Greek mythology, it was Atlas who led the Titans who fought against the gods that lived in Olympus, led by Zeus, who declared war on his own father, the Titan Cronos, for control of the world, and after a decade of war, the balance tilted on the side of the Olympic Gods and Zeus assumed world government and severely punished the Titans, especially Atlas, who was condemned to carry the sky on his shoulders.

> Atlas was married to the nymph Pleione, and together they had as daughters the Pleiades and the Hiádes, and also, together with Hesperis, they fathered the Hesperides, which protected the tree from the golden apples that were granted to Hera, wife of Zeus, by Gea, goddess of the earth, as a wedding gift.

> The golden apple tree was guarded in a secret place, however Atlas was warned by the oracle that one of the sons of Zeus would steal those golden apples protected by the Hesperides, and for this reason, Atlas denied hospitality to everyone in his house, which greatly angered Perseus who showed him the head of the Gorgon Medusa turning it into stone. This myth is considered the origin of the Atlas mountain in Morocco.
