Winter Confusion?

Hey everyone, one thing is for certain bees are much calmer and less active in the winter. Here I filmed these lovely ladies looking rather 'lackluster' and a little confused even, never the less a few are still coming and going, foraging and 'bringing home the bacon' as they should. I guess the rest of them just missed the Winter Memo?

We have put our weekly bee rescue missions on hold until we get to a warmer season coming in the next two months odd. I can only imagine we will be harvesting hundreds of kilo's of honey and rescuing many more swarms. I can't wait for spring.

I like your bee door. Do you only use that in the winter or year round? I just finished transferring a wild hive to my hive. I have them settling in before I move them to a better location.

This was the next day. Those combs in the front, were filled with honey. Its amazing how fast they clean up honey. I moved the hive to a more level place and I will check on it in a month to see how the new comb is before I move the box.

WOW stunning bruv, a few things that roof looks raw? We treat with Waxol, in the case of rooves though a tin sheet ontop of the wood to reflect heat and save the wood or a white house roof paint. If that wood is exposed for too long it wont last. Did you put all their larger combs inside with them? What is their motivation for staying? Nice job man. Ye they suck their old combs dry fast, them and all other feral swarms in the area. Oh and also raise it up at least 800 metres off the ground so critters ants roaches etc don't worry them and to make it easier for you to work with. Cheer$:)

Yes. I will put a thin metal tin roof on later. It's dry season so I have some time. The top is a 2" solid board I don't have any pieces of plywood wide enough so I used a slab of pine wood I had in the garage. I will make a new top for another hive later then can switch this top out to finish it.
Yes most of the large comb is in the frames, used rubber bands to secure them in and hopefully they build the new comb straight from the old. I did raise it up and moved it to more level ground. The hive is small, only about three full frames of bees.
